STAFFORD COUNTY, Va. — A man has been charged with larceny of animals, identity theft, and unlawful entry after a Stafford farmer told police the suspect broke onto his property to take his goats.
Cole Schrock, 19, was arrested in the 700 block of Leeland Road on Valentine's Day around 10 p.m. A Stafford deputy reportedly arrived to the scene to find the farmer holding Schrock at gunpoint in the middle of a field.
The farmer told police that he went outside to investigate after his wife told him that their goats had been let out of their pen, and that she believed a man was hiding in their field.
He told police that Schrock had previously bought several goats from him to give them to an odd Pakistani man named "Gerry", but that he didn't initially recognize Schrock because he had his face hidden under a hood. Police also accused Schrock of initially giving false identification to the deputy when he arrived.
Police say Shrock's pickup truck was found nearby with three goats tied to it. The farmer accused Shrock of being intoxicated, and the responding deputy said that he appeared to be slurring his words, but police say that after Schrock admitted he wasn't actually drunk, a breathalyzer confirmed his sobriety.
Schrock is currently in custody at Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond.
