Was Lincoln right for forming the then 'Radical Republican' Party or for freeing the slaves?

Worst thing that ever happened to the country was freeing the niggers.

Freeing the slaves was alright, but he should have sent them back to Africa.

Lincoln did not form the Republican party. The party was already in formation when Lincoln switched from the Whig party.

Lincoln was not a Radical Republican. He was nominated in part because he was seen as taking a more moderate position on slavery than other, better known Republicans. When in office Lincoln usually aligned himself with the moderate wing of the party.

Lincoln freed the slaves at the end of 1862, well after the war began. Freeing the slaves further discouraged British intervention in the war. Freeing the slaves resolved an internal debate on how to deal with escaped slaves. Freeing the slaves allowed the U.S. to start raising units of black troops, which proved a necessary addition to the Union army at a time when recruitment of native born white men was becoming a problem.

Additional proof for being Jacksonian Democrats.
