Even if Columbus started the genocide of the native Americans he is okay in my book for giving us this three day weekend each year.

Columbus never made it past the Bahamas. The Spanish, who financed Columbus' trip, used his maps to send conquistadors to 'discover' Mexico and Central America, eventually moving down into South America. By the end of their expansion into the Americas, the Spanish had colonized most of central America, a large swath of South America and parts of the US, from Florida to California.

Columbus didn't do much of nothing. But he didn't bring the genocide of the "injuns". That was the Spanish. Columbus was Eye-talian

Timing & execution are everything. No one in Europe even knew who Leif was let alone where he went. The Winklevoss twins pretty much invented Facebook, but most don’t even know who they are and only know that cuck zuckerburg.

There were already maps showing North America before Columbus. Piri Reis created maps which were copies of older maps. Although it was before Al Gore invented the Internet, people weren't as isolated and uninformed as is generally believed. Fishermen had probably seen North American and possibly even landed. The Viking settlements were known about, and the Vatican has records from monks which mention settlements.

Many of the so-called "indigenous peoples" living in North America at the time of Columbus had themselves displaced earlier inhabitants of the continent.
