Is It Illegal to Bribe Witnesses With a $Few Hundred Thousand Dollars in the USA?

I'm asking for a friend. He paid a few hundred thousand dollars to a porn star and a former playmate (through a secret deal with a lawyer and a shell company) so they wouldn't talk to the FBI or anyone about supposedly having sex with them while he was married.

No big deal. Anyways,

The lawyer was a cooperating witness with the Feds, took a plea deal, turned states evidence, and got a reduced sentence in Federal prison for a few years.

The shell company owners were also cooperating witnesses, turned states evidence, negotiated and paid a fine, and basically got a slap on the wrist.

So now they're coming after my buddy. Don't you think everybody should just look the other way. I mean why investigate him? What's the point ?

When it comes to blackmail, I like to extort as much as I can and then release the compromising material anyways. I only blackmail people who deserve it. Sometimes it almost feels like a chore but I manage

Your friend will be all right as long as chosen a secure place to store the evidence of his misdeeds.

The offices of the National Enquirer comes to mind. Security first.
