Haven’t had one drink in 2 days

If I don’t come home from work today and drink, so I’m really just over 1.5 days without a drink.

You’ll probably crash today on the way home from work because of the weather, drunk or sober.

That’s great. Just keep working through it one day at a time. Only worry about today. Tomorrow worry about tomorrow. Most cravings don’t last longer than 30 seconds. Think about waiting another 30 seconds before you decide to drink. I highly suggest you go to AA meetings. They are actually very pleasant and the people are very nice. The support will help you tremendously. At the very least, buy the AA book and read it. I think you would like reading about the history and the stories of many alcoholics. I stopped drinking last September. I’ve lost 30lbs, I look better overall, I sleep better, I’m happier, my kids are happier and I hardly think about it now. Only good things come from quitting. I know how hard it can be. Hang in there. And go to a meeting.

Dang it, I was going to write something rude that I thought was going to be funny, then you ruined it by being reasonable and nice.

It’s guys like you that make me feel better about myself. It’s one thing to be a loser. It’s a whole other thing to go out of your way to hurt someone else. People like you never amount to anything. It’s kinda sad actually. You’re just wasted space in this world. You will come and go and will never have accomplished anything significant. If anything, you make the things worse for the people that are forced to be around you. I don’t know how people can live knowing that they have a negative impact on everyone around them. Maybe you are just too stupid to see it. To go out of your way to hurt someone else just tells everyone else what a total asshole you are. Being a self centered asshole I’m sure you don’t care. But I know that the day you die the world will be a better place. Go fuck yourself.

Agreed. I quit 5 years ago and hope never to go back to that kind of dependency ever again. Dont worry about stigma - get to a meeting there are dozens every day in our area. You can google for meetings in your zip code. Support from people who have successfully eliminated alcohol from their lives is invaluable and really helps.

It takes a little time to break the behavior patterns but well worth it. Go to a meeting get a 'sponsor' maybe find a better way of life.

Hurt anybody? What are you talking about? I switched over to Rum and Coke. Feels nice to have a couple of drinks in the morning.

Its even better to be able to feel 'nice' without alcohol. For most who enjoy drinking in the morning, drinking is no longer a choice but a necessity. Being alcohol's bitch is one approach. Having the choice not to have to drink to feel good is another approach.

I highly recommend the latter.

PS people dependent on alcohol will 'defend' their drinking to others. Non-alcohol-dependent drinkers dont do that.

I didn't think someone could drink if they take fistfuls of Meds.

I used to know a guy that went to AA, had them AA stickers on his pos Toyota truck. He was so proud to show them off. I think the last time I saw him he had the 8 year sticker. He didn't really have a lot of friends though, because everyone knew, except apparently AA, that he still drank. Don't be that asshole.
If you've really got a problem get help.... and ignore the 12 year olds here

Reading comprehension - not your thing huh. Non-alcohol-dependent drinkers dont have anything to defend, thus they do not. They rarely think about alcohol or their use of it.

So you have ONE friend that you think is miserable because he goes to AA and doesn’t drink. Your attribute his supposed unhappyness to him going to AA and not drinking. Let’s say you are right. A group of people that meet to priced support to one another to overcome a dangerous addiction is making him an unhappy person. Meanwhile, there are hundreds of thousands of people around the globe that have benefited from going to AA meetings. Many of which are still alive and out of jail because they found help. Your argument is based on limited data(the one guy you know). You are clearly a stupid person.

Normal drinkers don't start threads about not drinking for 1.5 days as if it is a rare achievement.

If a person is broadcasting not drinking for 1.5 days and that person is not an alcoholic then what the fuck is wrong with that person?

Actually do be that asshole! If you are trying to stop but having trouble keep going to meetings. 8 years of trying to stop is better than being 6 feet under. Also protip, its unlikely someone is 'fooling' any group of recovering alcoholics for 8 days let alone 8 years - its incredibly easy for a recovering alcoholic with any time to detect an active alcohol user.

Isn't 'needing' to drink the definition of an alcoholic in the first place?

Not necessarily. See, some people need to smoke, maybe they are stressed or something, so some people just need to have a couple drinks. The ones that need to drink and keep going are the bad ones.

Do you think Gerry gets the goats drunk before he fucks them? I think that would be more humane. They probably don’t even feel anything anyway.
