I am of the opinion every citizen between the ages of 18-35 should be mandated to serve a term of 2-3 years military service. Those who cannot serve due to health issues or religious reasons (Amish, Quakers) should be made to do some sort of civil service. It would benefit the defense of the nation and would compel citizens to learn a trade or acccumlate skills that will be translatable in civilian life.

Screw that. We only want poor people in the military. If you are young, and healthy you should not be allowed to get welfare money, you should be forced into military service.
