I mostly fly to my vacations. Home to DCA is about 15 miles. But I understand if you're stuck with circling the Beltway for yours. LOL

I don't get the boat out as much these days but the boat ramp at Roaches Run is about the same. No, I don't typically put 100 miles in on a weekend. I doubt that many do. For the vast majority their largest mileage component will be their daily commute. There's a ton of stuff to do within about a 15 mile radius which includes DC to Lorton to Dulles to Bethesda depending on which direction I go.

Actually, the past history of US gas prices is that at $4 a gallon for regular, demand falls off a cliff and prices don't go much higher. At that level people start cancelling trips, carpooling like crazy, etc. Of course the economy will probably go into the tank.

Gas is already $3.05 at some gas station around me. The summer hasn't even started.

If you're thinking that you're smart and that Roaches Run is only on the other side of the parkway, then you're not. Gravelly Point is the land area at the tip. Roaches Run is the inlet and creek that runs through it to that area on the other side.

The other side is called "Roaches Run Waterfowl Sanctuary."

i.e., a waterfowl sanctuary located on Roaches Run.

Roaches Run was there before the sanctuary (or the parkway for that matter).

Run = a creek, e.g., Four Mile Run.

That entire inlet is Roaches Run.

When you launch at Gravelly Point (not really since the point is the actual point at the tip), you're dropping the boat into Roaches Run.
