Welcome to Fairfax Underground, a project site designed to improve communication among residents of Fairfax County, VA. Feel free to post anything Northern Virginia residents would find interesting.
I'm going to be silly and answer this question seriously. Our library has a lot of fiction - fantasy, sci-fi, cyberpunk, "classics", thrillers, and plays. However, we also have a lot of text books and reference material - mostly on technical topics, but also on things like invertebrate zoology, religion, and leadership.
Read Neuromancer, it's the quintessential book when it comes to defining the cyberpunk genre.
If you've ever seen Blade Runner, that can be described as cyberpunk.
It's basically a dark future where society has degenerated and the government is more powerful than ever before. There is usually a sci-fi element and almost always includes hacking culture.
Then you have steampunk, which is a derivative of cyberpunk. It takes place in Victorian times and is basically about futuristic technology merging with the old world.
This is one of the funniest threads I've ever seen on FFU. Here's my contribution. Not nearly as good as those above, I realize. But I hope it will help keep the momentum going. Thanks for the great laughs so far!
