Underground garage at my office. 24 Hr fully armed security, so probably safer than anything. Any recommendation on what cheap van to buy??

Thank you!!

I believe KMarts allow homeless people living out of cars to park in lots overnights. why not fucking move to an apartment closer to work? Sleeping in a car really really sucks. go online and see hacks for making a good bed in your car though. Sorry you lack funds to live close to your work

Whatever you buy - make sure you live in a van down by the river.

Just two days a month. I am not homeless. I just hate getting up every morning at 6am and then spending 1 hour commuting each way, door to door. I have underground secure parking at work and I can shower at the company gym. I have the funds to move closer, but I like where I live and I am a homeowner, so it’s not to just sell and move.

Get a laptop and wifi - you can telecommute from home.

It's a thing.

Don't buy a van and sleep in it when you can use virtual office technology to get your job done from your bed.

My bosses don’t like it. Nothing I can do about it.

Cheap van and a foam mattress can’t be that bad and I get an extra 2 hours of sleep easy.

Have you seen the price of apartments in DC? The rent would cost triple what a van would be. Where are you going to shower in the morning? Are you ready for the smell of a portable toilet in the van?

Check out youtube they have a number of videos of people converting old vans to campers.

just get a minivan take out the rear seats and put in a twin mattress

but it would suck getting up and then having to take a shower at work, brush teeth, ect and do all that at work rather than the comfort of your own home

how are you going to do meals?

I've thought about getting a van so I can sleep the parking lot of a bar. After closing just hope in the van and crash. Wake up the next morning and drive home.

Plus you can take the van camping on weekends. The only problem is vans use a lot of gas, like 15 MPG. You might be better off putting money into a more practical MPG car.

Another suggestion is seeing if your employer will allow you to worker longers days(an additional 3 hours each day) Mon-Thurs and then you have Friday off.

If the garage has 24 hour armed security then they will not allow your van to be parked there overnight nor allow you to sleep in it.

Get a cargo van w/ no windows in back. Throw down a futon, sleeping bag, good to go. If you want you can set up a dual battery like RV's have and run a laptop or TV or whatever.

OP is a fucking liar. route 66 is still a road to OBAMA. %98 hispanics and asians heading into DC to attack the country, to run home with money printed by "the money factory.

you need permission from the LOT OWNER, who has no permission on their zoning permit. his/her (owner) biggest worry is your a fucking illegal who steals and allowing you to "sleep" in the lot is equivalent to allowing a shopper to stay in a store after it's been locked. if you can others can, then there is a policing question, bathroom / facility availability (and WHO PAYS FOR IT) in mind, and etc. by the time that's all straight: it would cost some RENT.

falling asleep "mistakenly" in your car is not illegal, however

Naw man. You can brush your teeth in the van with bottled water and an empty 2 liter to spit .. or spit out the side door depending on where you're parked.

Shower? no Problem. Get some Aloe Vera wipes, deodorant and some baby powder or cologne ... you know the spots to clean up to avoid smelling like a Farm animal. Even clean between the toes for an extra "clean feel".
Must change the undies .. don't want to get "Crotch rot" and have to scratch your nads half the day.

Hair? Get some old fashioned hair tonic (if you are a non colored dude, ... it will appear your hair is "dressed" with tonic and stylish as opposed to greasy.

Totally doable, especially if this is just 1 night a week or less.
You called also get an adjustable shower curtain rod to seal off the front of the van while you sleep. If you have super dark tint on the back windows of a Mini van, you are good to go.

You're welcome.

Dude, just work it out so you can telecommute one day a week. That way you get to shit, shower and shave in your own digs. Telecommuting is supported by lots of companies and localities - it greatly reduces the volume of people on the roads, saves gas, time, money etc. It's a win-win, propose it to your boss.

I have to agree with building security figuring this out quickly and then you wasted the money on the van.

I do like the idea of a mobile place to crash. The problem is the parking places are VERY limited where you can park in Fairfax County. Even out in the small towns and mountains people still don't want a van parking anyplace.

Most places where you are doing security clearance type work will not allow to telecommute or take work offsite.

No need to buy a van with the Reverse J technique!

I have used it many times in my Ford 500. A little preparation goes a long way.

Doesn't your company have an apartment or can't they pay for a hotel for you a couple times a month? What kind of shithole do you work at?

With a fold down rear seat where you can bed down into the trunk, buy a 25 visit pass to the FCPA or Alex rec and hit a rec center to work out , shower or pay the 10 dollar fee, when your ready to crash park anywhere you can overnight, plenty of places out there, or buy a 1 yr rec center pass 600 dollars you can go to the rec centers in the am shower and go to work, then do the shower again in the eve and your fresh and ready to sleep no prob . With a power converter rigged in you can watch some dvds or listen to some music on a small tv too. I would also say get a CCW permit and have a handgun with you in the car when you sleep and get the rear windows tinted, Foods not a issue, nor does showering shaving and the rest, more people are doing it then you think, 2 to 5 days a month no problem

And scared of guns, you can still get the ccw and carry the handgun unloaded, Of course if a cop checks you out and finds that's what your doing, you will be taken in for a mental exam and it may be a week or more before you can get back to work to find you have been fired

Most or many office buildings have gyms with showers. Why the hell would you pay $600 to shower in a nasty rec center? Also, a lot of garages have electrical outlets in them. Just plug in an extension cord and run it into your van. A few years ago I lived in a van in the basement of my office building for a couple months while waiting to close on a house. At my current job I sleep on the couch in my office now and then, especially after being out late in the nearby area or working late.

Presumably if he got the shits in the middle of the night he would go in to his work and poop there.

But what is the big deal if it's only two days a month? I sleep IN my office any time I find myself working past 10. Sometimes it's 5 days a month. Nobody cares. I could probably sleep at work every night if I really wanted to and rent out my house. Just keep some clothes and toiletries there and sleep on a couch or get some kind of portable bed or mattress. Even if there is no gym, every workplace has a shower, or should have one so you can go running at lunch or bike in to work. Seriously for only two days a month buying a van is overkill.

He already started a living in a van thread that failed so now he is trying a new approach. Soon we will hear how he meets up with bros like Duncan Van and their fake living in a van adventures.
