"Mr. McGahn met again that same day with Mr. Trump and told him that if he fired Mr. Comey, the Russia investigation would not go away. Mr. Trump told him, according to senior administration officials, that he understood that firing the F.B.I. director might extend the Russia investigation, but that he wanted to do it anyway."

Read your headline and then read your quote. One the quote does NOT support the claim made in the headline.

Trump all ready said he had Russia on his mind when he fired Comey.

The libtard talking point is that Trump fired Comey in order to stop the Russia investigation.

As dumb as it was since it made no sense to anyone with a functioning brain to begin with, it's been repeated ad nauseam and part of the Russia Russia Russia nonsense since. In fact, as you repeat it here, twisting the "Russia on his mind" was part of that same narrative.

If, as the NYT now is reporting, he knew in advance that it would not and likely could make it worse, then he obviously didn't do it for that reason.
