The best show is not at the Mall, anymore; has not been for years. The best shows are in the neighbourhoods in the City such as Logan, Shaw, Brookland and Michigan Park. See, what happens is that these people, these days, they drive up to Delaware and Pennsyltucky and buy all of these goo fireworks that happen to be illegal in most places. Leave it to the gum'mint to ruin your fun, -eh?
Anyhow, they bring them back here and set them off on 4 July. The popo don't do much about it, because there are so many people doing it. They might grab some fireworks here and there just to have some statistics, but, they don't bother too many people because it would fill up the joint at the precinct house.
Then, the next morning, you can get some more entertainment by reading the Repress-ER-uh-PROGRESSives' comments on the neighbourhood listserves. It is really funny to imagine what their faces looked like as they posted their caterwauling about the noise and how the gum'min should ban even sparklers. Yup, that is the Oppress-ER-uh-PROGRESSive solution to everything. You take a law that everyone ignores and make it even more inclusive of what it bans. Of course, the Suppress-ER-uh-PROGRESSives simply do not understand that all that such a "solution" does is create more lawbreakers. No surprise, there, though, as feelgood non-solutions are a specialty of the Oppress-ER-uh-PROGRESSives. Consider, if you will, the so-called "gun control". How's that working out in ChIRAQ-er-UH-CHICAGO?
