Hungary’s efforts to crack down on independent institutions could lead to the shut-down of Central European University, an institution founded by financier George Soros.

The university’s head, former Canadian politician Michael Ignatieff, met Wednesday with Hungarian government officials to head off what he called “an irrational act of self-harm.”
