Fucking Obama Continues To Improve the Economy - Unemployment New Low at 7.8%
Posted by: Damn Dems! ()

Well here we go again. These damn Dems are continuing to improve the US economy and employment. These liberal bastards are likely to win election again if we don't screw up the economy some how.

As republicans we need to block any attempt to improve this county!!!

Maybe we can get a war started to really fuck shit up for Obama.

Obama scores another victory: Unemployment rate falls to 7.8 percent, hiring continues

The number of unemployed persons, at 12.2 million, was little changed in December, according to agency officials. The unemployment rate held at 7.8 percent and has been at or near that level since September, making it the fourth month in which the nation as added just under 200,000 jobs. In December, the number of long-term unemployed (those jobless for 27 weeks or more) was essentially unchanged at 4.8 million and accounted for 39.1 percent of the unemployed. The civilian labor force participation rate held at 63.6 percent in December. The employment-population ratio, at 58.6 percent, was essentially unchanged over the month, Labor officials said.

The number of persons employed part time for economic reasons remained steady at 7.9 million. According to the report, in December 2.6 million persons were marginally attached to the labor force. (These individuals are not counted as unemployed because they had not searched for work in the four weeks preceding the survey.)

Establishment Survey Data

The latest unemployment report found that a number of sectors continue to add jobs despite consumer pessimism. According to the Labor Department, health care employment continued to expand in December, adding 45,000 jobs. Job gains also occurred in ambulatory health care services and in hospitals, which added an estimated 50,000 jobs. In December, employment in food services and drinking places also rose by 38,000, making it the second largest provider of jobs in December.

Construction added 30,000 jobs in December, led by employment increases in construction of buildings and in residential specialty trade contractors. In December, manufacturing employment rose by 25,000, with small gains in a number of component industries.

Among the biggest disappointments were the numbers relating to seasonal employment. Employment in retail trade changed little in December, after increasing by 143,000 over the prior three months. Within the industry, employment in clothing and accessories stores fell by 19,000, following gains that totaled 55,000 over the prior three months.

Meanwhile, the change in total nonfarm payroll employment for October was revised from 138,000 to 137,000, and the change for November was revised upwards from 146,000 to 161,000.

The Housing Survey looks very similar to 2002 and 2008. 1 million jobs were lost over the last two months. Ordinarily, it's around 200 to 400 thousand. Typically, 2.5 to 3 million jobs are lost this month due to seasonal factors. Time will tell as the economy usually recovers those jobs in the first half of the new year.

The seasonal adjustments are huge at this time of year. I think the one for December or January expects an average job loss of 2.9 million. Anything less than that will print a positive jobs report. I don't remember if it was the Establishment Survey or the Household Survey, probably the latter. If 1 million jobs had been lost and the reports showed a positive gain or a small loss, there's something wrong with the seasonal adjustments which will get corrected by the concurrent seasonal adjustment program or by revising the benchmark next year.

He's right. Typical job growth needs to be above the range of 200K - 250K in order to keep up, somewhat higher or lower depending on how you want to count things like the size of the workforce dropping due to demographics versus people simply dropping out, economic effects on immigration rates, etc. Bottom line is that this really isn't anything to crow about. Basically treading water at best. Not necessarily Obama's "fault" but I see little in the way of any major policy emphasis that's going to change things in a significant way. In fact, to the contrary in many respects.

I wouldn't get obsessed over one month or a few months. It seems to be about 2.5 million jobs added year over year if you check the same month from a year ago. Over the long run, the workforce should be shrinking with 77 million boomers turning 65 between 2010 and 2030.

Pretty fucking impressive -- NOT! If you don't have a job chances are you are not going to be getting one.

The jobless rate for Asians was 6.6 percent (not seasonally adjusted), little changed from a year earlier.

In December, the number of long-term unemployed (those jobless for 27 weeks or more) was essentially unchanged at 4.8 million and accounted for 39.1 percent of the unemployed.

Total nonfarm payroll employment increased by 155,000 in December. In 2012, employment growth averaged 153,000 per month, the same as the average monthly gain for 2011. In December, employment increased in health care, food services and drinking places, construction, and manufacturing.

Just subtract Dec 2011 from Dec 2012. It's a little over 2.4 million jobs.

There's going to be a revision benchmark next month that adds 400 thousand jobs.
