I'm sure others will differ with me, but this is a perfect example to me of why death penalties are totally useless. The man was a prisoner and not going anywhere... no reason to kill him so why not let him rot in jail?

My feelings are the same for us in the US, though here we don't have a system where one appeal that fails means you're dead within 30 days so it is possible (though chances get slimmer as time goes on) that a guilty person could walk after a death sentence or life imprisonment sentence. I used to be pro-death-penalty in my younger years but I guess age and wisdom are taking over. But as with many issues this is a divisive topic and the law of the land (at least in this state and others) favors death penalty proponents.

I don't differ with you on that pgens. I do not believe in the death penalty, people elected or appointed to government positions should not have the power to kill people for any reason. I only posted that link because it's pretty fucking whacked out.

I too find it immoral to kill individuals proven through our justice system to offer nothing to society but death to fellow citizens. It costs next to nothing to house them in secure facilities for the rest of their lives while they clog that system with costly frivilous lawsuits and appeals based on remote tecnicalities - shit, I'll pay for that. I am down however with the right of citizens to kill the definitively innocent unborn temporarily residing in their bellies - 'cause Lord knows one of those dangerous fucks could grow up to be the next Einstein or Pasteur... The Saddam video just confirms what our government should have already figured out by now: the people in Iraq are uncivilized animals that can't be helped.

Its morrally wrong to kill criminals. A better punishment for Saddam would have been to let him rot in jail. Knowing every day that the power he craved, savoured and enjoyed for so long is gone and he is now a powerless wretch. You could make him even more miserable by assigning him a menial task in jail knowing that once his boots were kissed now he is the footwear licker.

Whether that is true or not isn't evidenced by this video. The US executes prisoners all the time. Some states even have hanging as an available method.

Now if you had said the video of them burning that truck, pulling out the burned bodies, poking them with sticks and poles, and stringing them up on the bridge a few years ago I'd agree with you.

I've got no problem with the death penalty. But when the state-run execution consists of executioners who taunt the condemned man with religious insults while professing their allegiance to a radical terrorist, that's just really messed up.

I'm sure there are some nice people in Iraq, but I don't see how we're helping them much.

I'm sure it has gone up quite a bit in the past 6 years. It cost even more to keep someone on death row. I don't have a problem with the death penality, but I do think the system needs to be reformed.

I wouldn't trust the Iraqis to keep Saddam in jail too long. With the political climate there God knows what's going to happen in that country after we pull out 10-20 years from now. It's best to kill him so some other faction doesn't free him. A shitload of the guys that did the USS Cole bombing escaped from Yemeni prison and will probably never be found. As for the death penalty, our state executes the second largest amount in the US followed only by Texas.
