It is inferred that he is some type of foreigner, but he seems to talk like a citizen.
I'd find it difficult to believe he doesn't at least have a green card.

It's confirmed he's either a 1st generation or kid who came here from indonesia and a muslim. Everything else is conjecture.

Like I said, Gerry is a real-blooded American with colonial roots. He does not need to have a green card. Still, he supports all immigrants of all races, genders, and faiths.
