It’s another dress that’s gone viral.
A modest red dress — which goes for about $23 on Amazon — has been outed as the top pick for TV meteorologists after it was shared in a private Facebook group.
A Reddit user posted a collage of weather forecasters from across the nation wearing the Stretch Tunic Pencil Sheath Dress after someone posted a link to the outfit on the social media page.
The style choice reveals the limitations meteorologists routinely face when choosing the right thing to wear for TV.
The conservative dress apparently pleases viewers, because "cleavage angers viewers over 40-something fierce, so we stay away from that," said Jennifer Myers, a meteorologist for FOX 4 in Dallas.
"There's no length rule on skirts/dresses, but if you wouldn't wear it to a family event, you probably shouldn't wear it on TV.”
The dress is a blend of polyester, cotton, and Spandex — and can be bought in a variety of solid colors, including pink, blue, purple and red with modest black lining along the front, sides and waist.
The dress easily passes most dress codes at news stations.
"Many female meteorologists are subject to a strict dress code for what they can and cannot wear on air," said Shelby Hays, a KOCO-TV meteorologist from Oklahoma.
The rules include that meteorologists must avoid green, which will cause issues with standing in front of the green screen. Other busy patterns can be terrible on camera.
"Many stations even have consultants that come in and tell you colors you should and shouldn't wear,” Hays said.
