I sold Grit Newspaper and used to order prizes by mail, back of funny books. I ordered a small live monkey once. Used to be fun getting things by mail, there was a company "Louisianna Biological Center, I could order 5 Anoles for a dollar believe it or not.

Sea Monkeys. Brine shrimp. Sold out of Ackokeek, Maryland.
Just after the original owner died I saw hundreds of boxes at the local recycling center in Marbury. They were filled with all the envelopes, order forms, and cancelled checks, each transaction stapled together. I should have taken it all.
What a treasure.

No, years ago, during the early 1960s you could buy little monkeys by mail. There were a species of monkey that were very small. Used to advertise them in comic books along with baby alligators. They became outlawed by the Government, pressure from Animal Rights groups. The Alligators were flushed down toilets and grew to large sizes in the sewers of NYC. One sewer worker was eaten up by a monstrous one.

On one Kojak episode (circa 1970s) the Lt. was afraid to chase a suspect through a large storm sewer because of the alligator threat. People would get tired of their pets and flush them.

No one was ever eaten by a alligator in the NYC sewer system ( or one even found in the sewers). They say a moron is born every second, you were one.

Wasn't there a movie made back in the 70s or 80s about albino gators living in the sewer?
