There used to be nothing like a grateful dead show. Some of the craziest looking people you ever seen would be there. All the drugs you could imagine. Camping in the parking lot for days. One giant party with a real laidback atmosphere.
If you looked like a hippie and had no money there would always be someone to get you high. Just sniff out the weed and ask for a hit. Nobody ever said no to me.
Acid for $40 dollars a sheet, sell it for $2 a hit up there, get home and sell it for $4. You could make a killing if you were careful.

I went to a Grateful Dead concert at FedEx once back in the day. It was a SHOW. All sort of unwashed hippies with dreads dancing like a bunch of drug induced ants. High school kids doing whipits off a nitrous tank. People selling all sort of drug shit. Old VW Vans painted in psychedelic colors. Shrooms everywhere.

A buddy of mine and myself were sitting on the back of his car watching the crowd. We saw a guy in a tie-die shirt come by with a hippie in cuffs. He went up over the hill and vanished. A couple of minutes later another guy in cuffs up went up over the hill.

I walked up over the hill and here was a police paddy wagon, loads of police cars and a temp booking station. I told some deadhead girl be careful there are a ton of undercovers that come in from behind the hill and they're busting people. She made up a sign on a piece of cardboard and walked behind any hippie undercover coming in from the hill yelling "Narks!!!"

Music??? I don't think anybody was sober enough to hear music.

The majority of people who are calling themselves Deadheads probably are too young to have attended a show when Jerry was alive.

I've seen them several times. To be real about it the music basically sucked every time. Always poorly engineered in places that were bad for that to begin with. They play everything way too long and with extended improvisation that you won't even recognize as whatever it is after a while until they come back to it 15 minutes later. But the crowd and the party is great. That's what you go for.

I saw them a couple dozen times. I went for the party too. I liked some of their traditional music, but the spacey stuff was too weird.

Went to a dead show with $100 once. Came back after 3 days with 6 sheets of acid, a chunk of real opium (not the fake junk many sold) the size of a golf ball, a QP of kind bud, new clothes (3 days, had to buy some clean hippy clothes) and still had $100. Ate almost half a sheet of acid over those days. Best concert atmosphere ever

I made many business deals at dead shows. Used to fly out to silicon valley and plan my trips based on dead shows. Good times still in the early 80's. They really brought all types together through music. Yes, you had the deadbeat liberals but for the most part the people made up what America was about, lived it and loved it. The scene turned to shit around 1988. Too many frat boy types and elitist liberal punks who came just to get fucked up. Then Brent died, Hornsby joined and forget about it. It got awful. Success has its consequences.

Good memories from college of bong hits and listening to Mars Hotel or Blues for Allah.

Not buying this unless you tell us how many guys you let fuck you for money. In the market you're talking about, I'm guessing quite a few.

Actually it was the Capital Centre. I'm positive where they played because I had to walk three miles to my car in the dark. I walked past a ton of hippie camps that were playing all sort of Grateful Dead songs. I was feeling pretty happy so along the way I would stop and chat with people in the hippie camps.

The best part about the Dead and Deadheads.... no niggers!
