Questions for Cary

Cary -

First, thank you for keeping this site going strong over the past few years. It's definitely resourceful, entertaining and a great way to spend a few minutes of idle time.

Out of curiousity, as the administrator or owner of this site, what's the biggest threat that you've received for information on identities of posters and certain sources of content posted by users? I assume that law enforcement, legal counsel, and certain users themselves have asked you for information that I would presume is protected by free speech.

Has there ever been any instance where you've had to comply with a court order or local authorities and for what subject matter?

Have you ever had to consult with or even hire counsel yourself to advise or defend against requests for information?

Have you ever received threats from other users (I take it that you likely have) and for what reason?

I know that perhaps some of these questions would be personal in nature and even privileged or confidential, I'm just intrigued about what kind of challenges you've had to face in the last 3 years or so as a site administrator / owner.

Thanks and regards.

Search for a thread titled "Freda" from back in 2005, lol. I'm pretty sure Don Geronimo called and yelled at Cary because of that thread.

What difference does it make if I were a registered user? Your identity is anonymous, right?

It's my understanding that Cary has the ability to view IP addresses whether you are registered or anonymous anyway.

Meep - Yes; I remember that exchange back then. Very entertaining. I believe that's why I started to frequent this site in the first place! Cheers.

That's why I started frequenting this site, as well. God, what a fucking baby Donny was. That's the one thing I didn't like about Geronimo. He sure the fuck couldn't take his own medicine.

I personally did not find it very entertaining.

because you can associate posts to a single person. if someone posts using a new name every time, you do not know anything about them at all. register a name if it's all the same to you.

And you can get PMs from wackos when you are registered.

Pardon my ignorance. What exactly was the issue with the "Freda" thread?

Don's wife died in a car accident. A thread was started. Alot of rude comments were posted. Freda's arrest record and Don's home address were posted, and he went ballistic on-air about it, mentioning this forum by name, along with some user names. And then legions of D&M fans came here and started to crapflood the board, so bad that the site went down. Some of the users that were mentioned on-air received death threats over the phone from crazed D&M fans.

I have the audio clip of Don freaking out about this FU thread. I won't post it here but can upload it somewhere else if people want it.

Also, the deluge of crap that was flooded onto the board was removed, but you can still see all the posts here in this special unmarked folder ---> http://www.fairfaxunderground.com/forum/list/45.html

Post it!

And BTW, I was at La Madeleine yesterday. WHERE WERE YOU?! I waited for a full hour while I enjoyed a bowl of tomato basil soup and a ham and brie on croissant.

lol, I'll upload it later, I need to edit it because it actually mentions someone here by name and i don't want to post that.

BTW, I don't like La Madeleine. Never really was impressed by stuff on their menu and the only time I go in there is when my mom is visiting town.

Well, I would, but this would only benefit readers and not the person who the original post was intended for. Besides, PMs give me gas.

*BUMP*

Cary? I'd be grateful for a response to the original post. It's been about, oh, 3 months.

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt. Perhaps you missed the message with your name in the subject line. After all, you could have mistaken it for another Cary. That stuff does happen from time-to-time.

Please take your time. I know, you can't rush a good thing.

Thanks man,
Picture Guy
