Kent State and modern riots (Baltimore)

Watching a special on "When the 60s ended" on PBS

Amazing how violent and destructive the college students were at that time, especially the Kent State ones.

They destroyed businesses in he local town - destroyed vehicles also - got into physical fights with people who live in that town - physical fights with police - set fires to businesses AND CUT THE HOSES OF THE FIRE DEPARTMENT trying to put out the fires - they burned down the ROTC building on there own campus - threw rocks and were violent towards the National Guard to the point of where they had to defend themselves. Some protestors were armed as well.

So, I am not advocating them getting shot, but that is what many think we should do in modern times when people of another race do TEH EXACT SAME THINGS.

I know posters will not be able to, but forget what the "Cause" of any of the protesters were and ONLY look at the actions of the protesters.

The ACTIONS are exactly the same when you compare Kent State to Baltimore.

Really makes me rethink some of my opinions on the TYPE of people who cause such destruction.

Point taken, but you can't ignore the cause. Every male high school graduate at that time was subject to being drafted into a war that everyone knew was pointless and where you had a high probability of being killed. Everyone knew someone who could be called up at any moment to 'serve their country' and prop up some politicians career.

Baltimore and other American cities are localized pockets of long standing multigenerational dysfunction. Hundreds of millions of dollars - probably billions of dollars - have been poured into these communities to no effect. The same dynamics persist, and have actually gotten worse - teenage girls getting pregnant by irresponsible young men who are basically unemployable even if they were willing to work. Nothing is going to change until the AA community wakes up and takes at least partial responsibility for their own problems.

I hate to say it, but we'll be talking about the same issues in the same communities 50 years from now. Read Patrick Moynihan's works from the 60s and 70s to get some context.

I agree, but was just surprised that the actions were the same, yet rarely noted here when people discussed other protests or riots.

I have always said that until Black leaders start to call out their own people and hold them accountable for their own actions - nothing is going to change.

I really have taken to that sentiment "Ignorance is bliss", because the more I look into any issue, the more frustrating it becomes to understand where the constant loss of common sense is lost and replaced with political bullshit and agenda based rhetoric.
