And there is something, indeed a great deal, to be said for that.

Our country is built on the principle of freedom of speech.

But on the other hand, by creating this forum, Cary is equally responsible for creating a place where hatred, racism, anti-semitism, and bigotry in all forms can flourish.

As such, it requires no great strain to see Fairfax Underground as the virtual equivalent of the beerhalls of Weimar Germany where Nazi hatred was allowed to breed and grow in the early 1920s.

It is a place where hate-filled minds can come together to stoke and intensify their mutual hatreds, to plan strategy and tactics, to see natural leaders emerge.

As the proprietor of this blog Cary is, in effect, the 21st-century equivalent of the tavern-owner who shut his ears to Hitler's youthful tirades... only to find himself being dragged off to Hitler's deathcamps a decade later.

Cary, in short, holds up one bright, shining ideal -- freedom of speech. And he wields this ideal with a strength and tenacity that one can only but admire.

But is the very brilliance of that ideal blinding Cary to other, equally important ideals?

Will his enshrinement of that singular ideal ultimately lead to the ideal's destruction by the larger forces of evil that it empowers and strengthens?

The OPs theory is flawed - there is always a reaction opposite another here at all times. Whether racist, political or any "ideal" for that matter...there are always posters on each side of the spectrum.

Perhaps there is still hope for Cary.
