Senator Ted Cruz of Texas will chair the Senate subcommittee on Space, Science, and Competitiveness, providing him with an oversight role of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, better known as NASA.
That slight twinge you felt was the proper emotion. The Senator, by way of a single example, tried to reduce NASA funding to be, in his view, compliant with a Federal spending cut. His amendment failed on a party-line vote.

Rafael Edward Cruz --was born in Canada in 1970 because his father was working for the oil industry there. The senator’s recently released birth certificate shows his mother was born in Delaware and his father was born in Cuba. The Cruz family left Canada a few years later. Cruz grew up in Texas and graduated from high school there, later attending Princeton University and Harvard Law School.
Same circumstances as Obama. Dad was a foreigner and mom was a US citizen, making him and Obama (by default) a naturalized US Citizen, and therefore eligible to be United States President.

NASA has a large base in Texas. By controlling the NASA fund Cruz can shutdown NASA operations in FL, VA and CA and move them to Texas.
Probably not the best move for America, but Cruz's PAC's could make a lot of money off this.

Texas milks a whole lot of federal money from NASA, there's no way Cruz will mess with his constituents. I wouldn't be surprised if he actually increases NASA's funding.
