DMV? No. Haven't been pulled over in at least 2 years
Ex wife? Not likely. She's gotten on with her life and so have I.
Contest win/check? Maybe. I do ocassionally enter them.
Jury duty? Doubtful. Fairfax courts just send things regular mail

Are you involved with any class action lawsuits? I went through the same anxiety when I had no clue why I was being sent a certified letter. I'd like to say it was a big fat check but it was just some bullshit legal docs about the progress of the class action lawsuit.

I had the same thing happen -- but it turned out to be my next door neighbor advising me he was installing a fence that would be facing my property. Law required notification via registered mail.

Probably the HOA or the county planning commission notifying affected property owners of a proposed change to zoning in an nearby parcel.

Could be his baby's mama serving him papers too.

No baby mamas. I've been parking in the same garage for the past ten years.

Turned out to be that my neighbor wants to replace their garage door and it will have a different design than what they currently have. HOA requires them to send notices with a detailed explanation of what they want to install to a certain number of neighbors within sight of their house. Basically, they want a new garage door that will have windows in it. Big fucking deal.

In Reston you have to get your neighbors to sign which sucks if your neighbors suck.

We got one recently for HOA removal of the shrubs that lined the street. They have to notify RA and the homeowners in the cluster.

Change is bad. Don't sign it. Why do people need to constantly change things?

HOA's are fucked. I would live in a packing crate before I would live in a community governed by an HOA.

yes but fucking foreigners are sending the "gov owns you" junk mail it's all a scam run by a corrupt democrat gov

they won't use old cheap reliable Xerox or X-Windows (X10, iPad)

they'll use expensive as crap asian printers that magically are in gov offices cost a ton and fail allot just after maintenance. anybody makes money that way.

it's illegal to dress up things as official mail that is not (or is fraudulent in nature). it's a local, state and federal crime.

also illegal (not necessarily criminal) is sending out mail that appears to be mail of a different nature. bait and switch mail. ie: a gov that sends out car tax in a newly designed letter that doesn't look like or say tax but appears exactly as registration envelopes always appeared. that would cause one to throw it away - assuming they did not owe registration - which is exactly why it's illegal. bait and swithc appearance, whether feinging to be official or dressing up like another common mail: is illegal
