North and South Korea are once again trading insults across their heavily fortified border, although this time the row is over cheerleaders.
Pyongyang had wanted to send a 350-strong "army of beauties" to support the North Korea athletes competing at the 17th Asian Games, which open in the South Korean city of Incheon on September 19.
The cheerleaders are reportedly hand-picked from North Korea for their looks and commitment to the regime and other groups have travelled to similar sporting events in South Korea in the past.
They first caught the attention of Southerners at the Asian Games in Busan in 2002 and they were back to woo their cross-border brethren at the Daegu Summer Universiade the following year.
Aware of the propaganda value of its most attractive women performing choreographed moves in the stadiums, Pyongyang wanted to send its largest ever contingent to Incheon, outnumbering even the 273 North Korean athletes, coaches, referees and officials.
