Welcome to Fairfax Underground, a project site designed to improve communication among residents of Fairfax County, VA. Feel free to post anything Northern Virginia residents would find interesting.
I havent heard this addressed yet. What about an employee who smokes pot but the job has a no drugs policy. Easily understood that you cannot come to work stoned but will he be fired if a random drug test shows marijuana in his system?
Most all government jobs have such a policy and so do many private employers.
I heard a report that over half the people buying weed yesterday and today were from out of state. But its supposedly illegal to transport your legally purchased ganja across state lines.
Alcohol is legal, would you go to work drunk off your ass? Prescription drugs are legal - would you go to work on a handful of Adderall or Oxycontin? Drugs test don't only test for ILLEGAL drugs, they also check for levels of legal drugs.

Would not show up for work drunk or high. But you go to Colorado where it is legal and do a few. Come back here a week later after vacation and boss orders drug test. You are positive for pot. I asked for thoughts not trying to make a case either way.
A lot of people do go into school and work pumped up on prescription drugs, they're the most abused drug because of their availability, the problem is they're prescription's and aren't paid attention to.

True ^
I worked with a guy a few years back who was taken 2 or 3 Oxxys a day for "chronic back pain". He also smoked weed but made sure he didnt smoke any for 30 days before getting his Oxxy scrip refilled becuase they tested him.
Drug dealers now can focus all of their efforts in Colorado on the people most likely to get permanent brain damage from smoking weed: the under 18 crowd.

I am happy to say that as a proud Virginia resident and United States citizen, I can get any pot I want, whenever I want, however I want it.

If you work at a job that drug tests its employees and you exercise poor judgment by using marijuana on a trip to Colorado then you deserve to lose your job. Doesn't matter whether or not it's legal there if it is against company policy.

Youd be fired and theres nothing you can do about it. Companies can set their own drug policies

Those same companies should also prohibit their employees from drinking alcohol seeing as it's arguably worse than weed.
Virginia is a "Right to Work" state and employment is "at will" which goes both ways. You are free to leave your employer at any time for any reason, and your employer is free to fire your ass for just cause and without warning.
