Has Anyone Been to the Dismal Swamp?

Meade and Avi Dey are going with me on a road trip to the Great Dismal Swamp. Anyone been before? Is it worth the drive?

Huge fire there a couple of years back. They couldn't get to much of it, so it burned for months. Take photos of the swampy decay and report back.

I don't mind funky wildlife, but I hate the bugs, and they always pick me out to torment.

I'm fine with just looking at the pictures.

Apparently the nearby residents are descendants of fugitives and runaway slaves. The swamp used to be a home to all the escaped slaves and convicts.

I always wondered who got the back end of my good fortune - all bugs ignore me. We're talking 4 continents and god knows how many islands here.

I love a good swamp but I've never stopped at the Dismal. Bring DEET and grease up come dusk.

Motored up the intercoastal from SC. It was long, hot and boring. Skeeters are bad. Did not see any gators but lots of Copperheads. Long post, short...It sucked.

Slaves and convicts... and that would make them different from other black people how?
