Meade on drugs: the final analysis

Just watched the Mead on drugs video.

Okay.

First, Prozac is not a miracle drug and like most drugs out there it's over-prescribed and for people with mild depression the side-effects are not worth it. But Prozac simply does not make you start acting like a maniac, it does not make you psychotic or paranoid. It certainly does not cause hallucinations. Neither would any form of amphetamine....unless maybe you were snorting it and doing so much you were becoming a complete tweaker. Even then, what he's describing is not probable. Zoloft, same thing. These are very commonly prescribed drugs. The side-effects he's describing are not common: stalking, spreading his legs and acting like he's having a baby in the school cafeteria, screaming, hallucinating, believing the government is controlling his bladder, these are not things that happen without an underlying cause. What he's talking about is schizophrenia.

Second, Meade just lost me as a fan. I was loving his schtick until this video. He was doing a gr8 job of keeping it wacky and out there yet just believable enough........with this one he went too far and tipped his hand. Maybe he wants to evolve the character a bit. But I don't like it. It's too unbelievable now, so it's not funny anymore.

The pork chop cooking video was a great example of wacky but believable. Also the Mama's Family dvd review video. He just blew his own gimmick.

I had the same thoughts when watching that video...the drugs he claimed to have taken don't usually have effects like that, and it seemed that schizophrenia was waiting just offstage to make its presence fully known.

I keep waiting...and waiting...for Meade to drop his adipose-laden dull-normal "singer" schtick, and announce to the world that this has been a brilliant multi-year performance art project, the news of which would shock and amaze the arts and performance world.

But the sad fact is, he's an adipose-laden dull-normal schlub with undiagnosed schizophrenia, and in time, he will be committed to a Virginia snake-pit public mental institution, where he will be sodomized by angry ex-con caretakers

But he will have a captive audience for his so called 'music'.
Lots of people drugged up on anti-psychotic meds might be some sort of fan base.
His music is monotonous enough it won't set any of them off on some sort of fit.

Notice how he waxed poetic about singing at the old folks home in his first 'obese' video.
An audience that is aAcombination of those who can no longer hear, those who were physically unable to wheel themselves away and those who were bored and would sit through anything. I'm sure he got a nice turnout which is why he remembers it so fondly.

Is this a bit we're all just going along with, or does no one here really think this act is a work? Meade may be autistic, but that doesn't necessarily mean his persona is not a work. He is weird to begin with, but he is playing it up. In other words, a work.

Have you known anybody with autism? Drugs effect them in different ways than nuerotypicals.

I think you guys are thinking it too much. Meade is just a garden variety entertainer who is a bit on the eccentric side. People with Aspergers appear to be narcissistic on the surface level because all they usually talk about is themselves and a few narrow subjects of interest. However, they don't completely lack empathy and they aren't manipulative. In fact, I dont think he is even aware people think its a "shtick" and that people actually like his bland music for the sake of it, and not the antics behind it. For that reason I feel kind of sorry for him.

I can see Meade playing air-keyboard and crooning to an audience of tranked-out institutionalized zombies, all scratching themselves till they bleed, pulling out patches of hair, masturbating and groaning along to the relaxing chorus of "Sweet Tea."

You mean a BADLY aging untalented slob.

If he keeps it up,
one drug will be in his future---insulin.
