Is Sam Adams beer a craft beer?

The industry defines it as a company with production below 6,000,000 barrels annually and they brewed 2.5M barrels last year but, I've never seen another craft beer brewery advertise as often as Sam Adams...

I don't think it is... Sam Adams is okay, but for the cost you could do much better. I think the way they keep the numbers so low is because they have several different types of their beers. There is the original, the summer lager, the fall harvest, the winter medley and more.

Why does anyone care what made-up marketing category it falls in unless you're a competitor or have some financial interest?

Like it, drink it. Don't like it, don't.

It's pretty good, though like most imports and crafts it's gotten very expensive. Something feels wrong when I'm asked to pay nearly $10 for a six pack. Granted, that's still way cheaper per beer than in a bar, but still, it's not cheap.

My only real complaint about Sam Adam's has been that if after you open it you set it down any more than super soft it starts to fizz out of the bottle. Very temperamental beer.

Yeah, had that Dogfish IPA 90. It's pretty strong stuff. In fact, you can only get it as a 4-pack.

Craft beer is just another term for micro brew. Those were popular back in the mid 90's. Of course you could just grab some Fat Tire, turn on DC101 and it be like 1996 all over again.

Because as a consumer, I find it totally offensive that a company like Sam Adams is trying to market themselves as a craft brewery when they are not. That's like Toyota telling me the Camry is a hand-crafted "grounded to the ground" sports car...

In 2010, the Brewer's Association increased the threshold for "craft" from 2 mil to 6 mil so that Sam Adams and Yuengling could continue to call themselves craft breweries. Kinda dumb.
