Fairfax Underground
Welcome to Fairfax Underground, a project site designed to improve communication among residents of Fairfax County, VA. Feel free to post anything Northern Virginia residents would find interesting.
As tradition, we never get our tree any earlier than December 21st, because technically we're still in "Advent" until Christmas Eve. However, in recent years, people gobble up all the best trees so early in the Season, that by the time it rolls around to get a tree, nothings is left.
I was going to get a tree this weekend. It feels odd to get one so early. Do you think it should hold up until January 6th? What time do you usually get yours?
Trees found in parking lots have probably been cut down somwhere in PA or NY back in early Nov and shipped down here. They're all dried out. If you cut your own tree, it'll be fresh and as long as you water it it'll last to the 6th easily. We cut ours every year the 1st or 2nd weekend in Dec (weather dependent). I always the the tree down on Jan. 1 and while it's not fresh, it's not brittle.
Whatever you do, cut the bottom 2" off the tree before putting it in the stand. The tree will seal itself with sap and the water will never wick up. The longer it's been cut, the thicker the seal.
Better yet, cut down the pine tree in the yard of that prick neighbor down the street. You know who I mean, everyone has at least one in their neighborhood.
As a Sikh, I find threads like this to be highly offensive. Please be aware that not everyone follows your oppressive white man holidays that celebrate consumerism.
I myself will be celebrating Guru Gobind Singh Gurpurab, I encourage all of you to diversify your lives and learn about this celebration.
