NBC News: Man arrested planned suicide bombing at Wichita airport

Wichita Police Chief Norman Williams says a 1 p.m. news conference Friday will address “a major situation for our city that was averted” through a collaborative investigation.

NBC News reported that federal officials arrested a man who planned to detonate a suicide bomb at Wichita’s Mid-Continent airport.

It's time for us to enact common sense bomb threat reform. I'm calling on elected officials of both parties to put aside their differences and come together. This is a non-partisan issue that only government can solve with common sense legislation.

Suicide bombers are probably the most misunderstood segment of our population. All they want is their 72 nubile virgins, but we label and stigmatize them as "terrorists."

In a Nov. 8 meeting with one of two undercover FBI agents, Loewen "indicated that he was interested in becoming a martyr (i.e. dying in the attack), but that he needed to make sure that there was a reason for him to be martyred," the court complaint states.

Loewen also acknowledged that "spending my remaining years behind bars for a good reason is not out of the question for me."

Sounds like would-be criminal in search of a motive and someone who believes he will survive a suicide attack.
