Even if he was in anyway responsible for the beginning of an armed resistance which he couldn't have possibly lead from solitary confinement. It was in response to apartheid.

Mandela was a revolutionary when he was young, and used tactics that could be considered terroristic. I don't blame him to a point as conditions in South Africa and Rhodesia were really injust.

He's going to get any help if he turns to the colonial powers for help if he wants to free his people. They are, after all, the ones who are exploiting South Africa's mineral wealth for their personal gain. He's going to turn to the Soviet Bloc or other non-aligned governments who have freed themselves from colonialism. I agree entirely that Cheney is a terrorist, although I'm baffled as to how that's relevant to this discussion at all.
And I don't care how much popular support Mandela got, you don't solve political problems by murdering a shitload of innocent people, that's called terrorism.
I guess because he's old, black, smiles a lot and reminds people of Morgan Freeman, a little bit of blowing up women and kids in shopping malls and trains stations with bombs is okay.
