Left-Leaning New Republic: Yes, Obamacare's Failure is a Threat to Liberalism

"There’s a term of art that the Obama White House uses to describe its neurotic supporters who instantly race to the worst-case scenario: They are known as “bed-wetters.” Two months into the dysfunctional life of healthcare.gov, however, that seems a perfectly appropriate physiological reaction.

Liberalism has spent the better part of the past century attempting to prove that it could competently and responsibly extend the state into new reaches of American life. With the rollout of the Affordable Care Act, the administration has badly injured that cause, confirming the worst slurs against the federal government. It has stifled bad news and fudged promises; it has failed to translate complex mechanisms of policy into plain English; it can’t even launch a damn website. What’s more, nobody responsible for the debacle has lost a job or suffered a demotion. Over time, the Affordable Care Act’s technical difficulties can be repaired. Reversing the initial impressions of government ineptitude won’t be so easy."

Pretty damning from the editor of one of American Liberalism's magazines of record.

If it fails and you have your way, Liberalism will still rule the day in America. If it fails, you still have a broken health care system that has yearly inflation in costs, massive amounts of people uninsured and is an existential threat to the economy. If it fails, the only remaining alternative solution would be one that would be even more Liberal in nature, a single payer system. So its failure in essence may drive the country even more Liberal than it would of been under the ACA.

This is the irony that escapes Republican simpletons. If you knew any better, you would pray for its success not its failure.

You're kidding yourself. It will be just like HillaryCare again. Dems won't even want to touch that poop with a stick for another 20 years.

Why you guys always have to overreach I'll never understand. Same shit every time. It's like you think that you're going to be able to slip stuff like this by people and nobody's going to notice. lmao

The only way you'll ever successfully change healthcare in this country is in incremental steps. It's not the 1920s or 40s any more. Or even the 80s when the problems which became apparent then killed it out of the gate. The scope of what's involved is far too complicated now to do major sweeping programs like this whether it's healthcare or otherwise. You can't turn an aircraft carrier like that. You can try but it will just crash and run over stuff.

There is no threat to liberalism. Liberalism is the future.

Republicans just slowly adopt liberal ideas after realizing they are better.

Remember just 4 years ago republicans were saying every American should attend Christian church on Sunday. Now you don't hear that at all.

Liberalism in the classical sense is already dead. Its been smothered by progressivism, which will never die. It might fade away like fire reduced to an ember, waiting to catch fire once again.

Its arrogance. They always think theyre so much smarter than everyone else so they can be the one to make it work. In the end though theyre just as dumb as the first guy that tried it.

Youd think someone who was really that smart would understand its the policy thats flawed, not whose delivering the message.
