They don't understand the emotions of love, happiness, and positivity.

Philosophy is also a foreign concept to them.

Have good taste. The Beatles were marginally talented- mostly couldnt sing, not like the Beach Boys. Also not great players either and had zero stage presence. They were mostly a studio creation and found playing at hooker bars in Germany.

Hard to compare them really, but 'Here, There, and Everywhere' is probably the best pop rock song ever. Not in the same league as 'Kashmir' or 'Great Gig in the Sky', but that's kinda the point - different leagues.

I'm a die-hard Zep fan, but you can't compare 70s and 80s rock to the music that preceded them. We wouldn't have bands like Queen or Rush if it weren't for the Beatles. Likewise, the Beatles wouldn't have achieved the massive success that they did if it weren't for Chuck Berry or even Elvis. Of course, the turning point was Rubber Soul and Revolver.

Once it got to Sgt. Pepper, I think we could all agree that LSD was one hell of a drug.

As a teenager at the time we tended to view the Beatles in about the same way that people might look at a Lady Gaga now. Popular but not that great. Not quite that bad but similar in terms of lots of people liking them but not a lot of substance or musical ability there. I can't think of a comparable group out these days. Their "deeper" attempts from the drug years weren't really taken as cutting edge stuff versus many others. Lennon with Yoko was a complete joke and literally mostly laughed at. Go back and look at some of the many other music and performers who were around at the same time and you might get a sense of what I mean.

The Beatles broke a lot of new ground in a fairly short amount of time and are musically relevant even 50 years later.

Does anyone think future generations will be sitting around 50 years from now listening to "Poker Face" and saying "wow, this music is brilliant"?

I'd say more like they had a lot of the ground broken by many other groups in the aggregate attributed to them because they were put up as the face of the 'British Invasion' and one of the most popular groups of the era. Not that they didn't have some good music which has become significant in the scheme of things but there were lots of others who were breaking more ground. Kind of like attributing "rock and roll" to Elvis.

Unfortunately it's a little-known fact that the Beatles were very much influenced by Frank Zappa & The Mothers of Invention. Also, Zappa was experimenting with and inventing studio techniques like multi-tracking, overdubbing, quadraphonic sound, and xenochrony, years before anyone else picked them up.

In addition, groups such as Van Halen, the Jam, the Knack, the Pretenders and the Fall covered their songs, helping to boost the Kinks' record sales. In the 1990s, Britpop acts such as Blur and Oasis cited the band as a major influence.[1] The Kinks broke up in 1996, a result of the commercial failures of their last few albums and creative tension between the Davies brothers.[6] Sully Rd South onto lee Jackson Memorial Hwy into Chantilly, check status of machines at Fair Oaks Mall. I never agree with people who say this about rock music, that early stuff is not as good. I only like early stuff. It gets so bloated and dull after those early simple songs. 3 minutes or under, Chuck Berry Jerry lee Lewis Sun Studio era Elvis, that's all that's interesting to me. earlier always better. knock it off. you don't get any better than Jonny B. Not a big Beatles fan but definitely have to give them that much.

Go to YouTube sometime and just jump around through random older music. Even average second- and third-tier stuff which I didn't like at the time still is miles better in terms of creativity, execution, everything versus the nothing crap out these days.

They're one of the few boy bands who progressed to make music that could also be appreciated by adults, Elvis being the other famous teen idol. Michael Jackson and Stevie Wonder would come along later to do the same.

Beatles were great songwriters. They have to be appreciated for the quality that could be attained with the technology that was available at their time. Stevie Wonder's cover of "We Can Work It Out" is infinitely better than the Beatle's original, but they're both great renditions.

I think another thing that is overlooked is the brief period of time in which they wrote and recorded all that. They weren't well known until December 1963, didn't even have a hit in the US until 1964. And by the fall of 1969, they had already done their last album and were on the verge of breaking up.

That's only six years in which they covered a huge amount of ground. From their giant boy-band pop hits, to the psychedelic Sgt Peppers, to classics like the White Album and Abbey Road. All within 6 years. Sure, they had a few duds, but that is one impressive music catalog to release in such a short period of time. Think back to 2007 and imagine a band nowadays releasing that level of output from 2007 until now. It just doesn't happen like that. Heck, even if you consider their early stuff as filler, everything from Rubber Soul to Abbey Road was done in only 4 years.

Imagine Rubber Soul, Revolver, Magical Mystery Tour, Sgt Peppers, The White Album, Yellow Submarine, and Abbey Road all being released in a row since 2009 until now. Crazy. And they also wrote and recorded Let It Be during that time.

No band does that, not since then and not now.

Are you kidding? The Beatles may have been successful, yes. But they weren't all that original, and they stoled al ot of their music from the Beach Boys and Elvis and even Buck Owens in the beginning. They were a marketing ploy. And they were not all that talented, either.

The Beatles were ugly, and marginally talented AT BEST. Elvis was a much better performer and singer than all 4 Beatles. He did more to move and shake music before they were even on the scene. They wanted to be like him, but lacked the charisma and natural talent. Their vocals were weak and off key in most places, and their playing was mediocore. Their songs were basically just catchy Pop ditties. They were in short, a boy band. How people can say they are so great is beyond me.

Beatles were a phenomenon of their time. They would not have achieved the fame they recieved, at the time, if they did not possess something extrodinary. Their "Sergeant Pepper" album was their defining moment though, that'swhere they proved themselves. Everything else was pretty so-so.

I love the Beatles and the Stones but I don't listen to them hardly ever. There are a lot of great groups from that era, such as the Who, Yardbirds, Cream, Byrds, Buffalo Springfield, CSNY, and many more. It's the same thing. People like variety. It just gets stale (like an old drug) if you listen to something too much.
