"The view I have is the U.S. will be a lot less dependent with Canada. That will really reduce imports, combined with more fuel-efficient cars, from outside North America. We'll still be importing some, but it's certainly a rebalancing of global oil. That oil that was coming to the United States will go somewhere else and that somewhere else would be Asia," said Daniel Yergin, vice chairman of IHS. "The other place where oil demand is really growing happens to be the Middle East."

Has nothing to do with Obama, federal land permits and drilling is down. Pipeline has been blocked.

Also why are you quoting the vice chairman of the IHS like its fact when he starts out with "The view I have is....."

"Still be importing some?" Yeah, like about 35% under best case scenarios and we'll still be consuming about twice what we produce. lol

Production is substantially *down* about 30% from the peak many years ago. The only thing that we are up over is the average levels for the past decade and where we thought we were going to be without frac'ing. The only reason that we may exceed the Saudis and Russia is because their production is falling about 7% per year now not because we're producing huge amounts more.

Most European countries are now switching to solar and wind power. I think Holland now get half it's power from solar and wind. Hard to beat free energy.

We'll soon have our asses handed to us by Europe who are investing in clean energy.

Not really. Most people don't understand that all energy isn't created equal. There are lots of ways to generate electric power for stationary uses. Wind and solar work fine for that where they work but overall they don't generate much power/unit and the unit costs are high. But, most importantly, they don't work as well for transportation purposes as do liquid fuels which is where we use virtually all oil. Even assuming advances in batteries, etc., and forgetting all of what it would take to build out infrastructure, there are a lot of inherent advantages to liquid fuels which wind/solar/other electricity generation aren't likely to match any time soon. Which is why we started using them primarily over other types of fuel sources for such purposes (e.g., electric cars aren't really new).

And not really "free." You really just trade off costs/efficiency in different ways at different points in the fuel cycle and the costs are higher for solar/wind than some other methods where you have much greater economies of scale. The only reason that they work economically there now is that they've structured incentives/disincentives to make them work.

OP - Understand that there is no energy "crisis." Obama solving a non-existent energy "crisis" would be like him winning a Nobel Peace Prize before he did anything as President.

We do have energy issues and he and his administration are doing their best to make things worse, but currently there is no "crisis." Stop trying to scare the libs.
