Welcome to Fairfax Underground, a project site designed to improve communication among residents of Fairfax County, VA. Feel free to post anything Northern Virginia residents would find interesting.
Taxes filed January 26....still haven't received my refund. I was told the IRS is using a new system or something this year and anyone that submitted taxes with Form 8863 is taking significantly longer.
Anyway, I thought it was law that the IRS has 21 days to send you a refund.
I am glad to see I am not the only one still waiting. I filed 1/30, accepted 2/15, also called a couple of times because WMR would not show me anything and was even told by one guy I should have my refund 3/4! I spoke to a lady Friday and found my refun is in the error dept but she couldn't give me the exact reason. She said it could be the 8863 form, an issue with the form HRB was supposed to submit, or my FRHTC which I received years ago and do not have to repay. I've been hearing a lot of new rumors about the 8863 form and being in errors and. Ow they're deciding to release them and process? I am on hold now to see if this is true because I have heard so much pertaining to these forms. Hopefully I'll get an honest person!

Errm, I don't think that's true... Although I've never done my own taxes ever, so Im not exactly sure. But I do recall that even after signing the prepared state and federal forms, its taken like 2 months to get a check.

If you filed the 8863 you must have a dependent in college. Your return has been set aside for now. Should be processed before the end of May.
The glitch is in the data given to the tax software providers by the IRS last year it is not a big deal though your tax will be very close to what the tax software said it will be, less than 7.5% difference

Probably 1040X for an amended return. Wait until after April 15 to file it though so that the original return has a chance to be processed.

Fairly certain you can claim the credit on yourself, provided nobody is claiming you as a dependent and you meet the other requirements.
Just checked my mail...IRS sent me a letter saying that they are holding my refund pending further review. Apparently my return showed combat zone deferment, though I have never claimed this.
