(TX) on Thursday for causing a government shutdown that made it difficult for hungry residents in rural Arizona to get food.

Speaking at The Atlantic‘s Washington Idea’s Forum, McCain responded to a question about his differences with Cruz by saying he “admired and respected” the Texas senator.

“Where I disagree with Sen. Cruz — and I made this statement to him publicly and privately — was shutting down the government injured the people my state!” McCain said, becoming angry. “I am elected to represent them.”


He noted that one community near the Grand Canyon had to have food flown in from food banks during an October government shutdown that was instigated by Cruz with the hope of repealing, defunding or delaying President Barack Obama’s health care reform law.

“I have to say, ‘Stop! You’re wrong, you’re crazy!’” McCain exclaimed. “That’s what I have to say and if I sound angry, it’s because I have met and talked to constituents of mine who are on minimum wage who had to resort to go to food banks. I’m going to do everything in my power to make sure that doesn’t happen again.”

“There was no chance of success and anybody that believes that there is, is very naive about the Constitution of the United States.”

and Cruz was proven right by the failure of obamacare. McCain has been in Washington too long. He needs to leave office and give up his huge perks and trappings that go along with his job.

So it affect only 5 percent of people......Leave it alone, time will tell all. Cruz didn't have to add 24 Billion to the deficit, if is a shitty idea it will show up in time.

So uninsured people who couldnt get health care from pre existing conditions only affected 5-8% of people.......leave healthcare alone. Obama didnt have to add trillions to the deficit.

The shut down didnt add dime to the deficit. Only retarded government math can come up with that it costs you money not to spend money you dont have in the first place.

McCain is correct and has a valid point backed by history. There were over 47 votes to repeal Obamacare that failed. If Cruz had half of brain he would of known that trying again to repeal Obamacare would end up the same way.

Cruz should be held responsible for the $28 billion dollars of wasted taxpayer money.

It's ridiculous that congress couldn't get anything accomplished in the 6 months extra they were given to come up with a reason budget.

I don't blame the military members who are hurt from the sequestration from being angry.

So I assume he is now going to force the Obama admin to enforce immigration laws and stop trying to push through amnesty bills? Becuase that is fucking over his minimum wage workers harder than a bunch of lazy gov employees sitting at home for three weeks.

BTW, what made them go to food banks? SNAP and WIC was still funded and operational.

If the election was today, McCain would still get more votes than Cruz.

Only about 10% of Americans support Cruz.
