How can it be called "Olympics" without wrestling?

The "Olympic" committee has decided to drop...gasp!...wrestling from the Olympics.

When I think of "Olympic sport" probably a handful come to mind - running, javelin/discus, wrestling. And it's been that way for thousands of years.

Somehow, snowboarding just isn't there.

I am disappoint.

Wrestling isn't favorite event, but he's right. That was one of the first events included in the Olympics.

If they're trying to "streamline" the Olympic proceedings, why not do away with the ridiculously lavish and extended opening ceremonies?

They get rid of wrestling but keep Judo?

The ancient roots of wrestling have already been mentioned, while Judo has only been an Olympic sport since 1964.

Plus Judo is fairly boring compared to Freestyle and Greco Roman wrestling.

How about MMA as an Olympic sport?

And how about correcting the problem of bad decisions in boxing?

Disregarding the sexual aspects of wrestling...

A long time ago (as I or one of my alter egos may have posted around here), Sports Illustrated or something roughly equivalent published the results of a study of athletes across various sports, ranking them by intelligence, agility, strength, skill, etc etc etc.

Wrestling ranked #1 - you need speed, agility, strength, intelligence,a nd more to do it well.

[fencing, was #2, BTW...]

So the "Olympic" committee just decided to eliminate THE top athletic sport.

If they want to get rid of some sports that are considered on the fringe, get rid of Dressage. It is boring to watch, and the true athletes are the horses that have been trained since birth, not the rich assholes that ride them.

I say we stop judging the Olympics. There are too many losers in sports. Everyone should get a Gold metal.

Just imagine athletes not getting stressed over trying to win. They would be happier and it would make us happy watching them play. What a wonderful Olympic world it would be.
