I dunno about this Obamacare thingy
Posted by: Self-Employed Guy ()

My self-employed, individual, relatively high-deductible health insurance is going up next month from $350 to $433/month. That's a bunch. Largest increase by far in the ~10 years that I've had it. Best I can tell I'm not getting anything better for my money. Really not diggin' how this is working so far.

I told you fools to go on welfare. Free medical and dental. Free housing, food stamps, WIC and a tasty obamaphone for chatting with friends since your days are all free from work. Get with the program.

I don't suppose you asked your health insurance provider why your rates increased by almost 24%. That'd be a good place to start.

There are myrid possible reasons for your rate to increase that have nothing to do w/Obamacare.

Physicians don't make money off of medicare patients. They pretty much use them to pay the bills, but they are basically breaking even with these patients. Obamacare is cutting medicare payments by TEN PERCENT. The physicians protested, and Obama ignored them. The result is that physicians will be dropping Medicare patients, and forming primary care "clubs" in which you will need to buy membership to access their services. Both my physician (out of Inova Fair Oaks hospital) and my father's physician (near 495 and 50) have recently converted to this. We both found new physicians.

Bama will just write another Executive Order to force docs to treat his followers.
Wonder how they are going to treat you if they know you are just costing them money....

A picture is worth a thousand words, but I can't tell what your trying to say.

Is this a put-down on me or Bama?
Are you for or against Obamacare???

Maybe you should state your opinion with words, not photoshop.

It was for recess appointments, not Obamacare.

A wound just the same. At least he learned that its not just him making all the rules.
Soon the bits and pieces of Bama-care will start to crumble...then there will be nothing left.

Actually I did ask. Not specific to me. It's just a general increase due, as stated in the notice, to coverage requirements and cost increases for hospitals, doctors, and drugs.

This (an Aetna plan) at least was a relatively good deal for what it was. Kaiser for example is ~$550 for the equivalent. All of the rates are set by the state insurance board so there's not a whole heck of a lot of difference at least at the lower end of the price ranges for the same levels of coverage. You can pay a whole lot more if you want. The only ones that are much less are a few restricted plans limited to doctors and run by companies that I'm not as confident in dealing with.

Sucks.

So this Libby schmuck id full of shit when s/he quacks out his/her ass about the increase being a direct result of Obamacare. Good to know.

> Sucks.

I am sure that it does. Not that it's any consolation, but I participate in a huge group plan (also Aetna) and I pay $466/mo.

We had a 20+ pct increase two years ago, but the premiums have held steady since. Some plans jumped on the premium increase bandwagon as soon as health reform was announced or passed. Others waited.

There should be lower drug costs this year as a lot of blockbuster drugs have gone off patent in 2012.

I'd say that it likely does reflect additional direct costs given the requirements to carry people until 26, limits on exclusions, etc., in the law which have already kicked in. All of that is hitting my billing for the first time as of this renewal. Also cost increases more generally to include indirect costs of taxes on medical equipment and some of the other redistribution of costs for Medicare reimbursements. The medical industry isn't going to just eat that. All of it just gets passed along like everything else does.

I'm not an Obamacare hater btw. I've never been real convinced that it was going to save any money though. At least not for people who don't fall under the subsidy levels.

I'm guessing that yours isn't a relatively limited, high-deductible plan for a single person and/or that's not all out of pocket. If it is then your HR dept sucks. I know my wife's and my kid's work plans are nowhere near that and have $0 deductibles, better inclusions, $2 generics, and stuff like that. An equivalent independent, individual plan probably would be in the $750 to $1,000 range. And I can't just roll mine into a G&A rate and have the government pick up most of it like they can. Unfortunately I can't tag along on hers. Wish I could.

Also, I misstated the cost above. It's now $325 going to $433.

They imposed a maximum deductible of $2,000/$4,000 and eliminated the cap on benefits. It'll benefit a few very sick individuals, but I expect the insurance companies will find a way around that.

The Obama-care bill used healthcare to mask and pass multiple Gov run scams.
They used fear tactics for force the unread bloated bill through.

Healthcare will continue to suck. Obama hasn't helped us.

Read the bill.

That's not kicked in yet. Not sure when it does. There still are $5K/$7.5K/$10K, etc. deductible policies. That's the only reason mine is as "low" as it is. I'm in relatively good health (knock on wood), don't take any meds, and very rarely go to the doctor, done with kids, etc., so for me it's just in case for catastrophic purposes. Makes more business sense to do the high deductible. I guess those are going away at some point so that will kick the cost way up whenever that happens.

My individual health insurance was increasing at a 20% clip for a number of years before Barry became the Prez. Last few years haven't seen much of an increase at all. Although, I try to use it as little as possible even though my health sucks. Pretty much for catastrophic purposes. Now I hear that some of the big losers in the ObamaCare act will be folks with individual plans or small businesses. I think projections of at least 20%+ for folks who fall in those categories. Hell I'd seriously think of doing a wild wild month in Vegas baby and zeroing out and going on Medicaid if I wasn't stuck being land rich jointly owned by family members who have ready access or the means to pay lots and lots for health insurance therefore in no big hurry to sell and it's nearly 20 years since we all inherited. Family's ain't they great.

But back to O'BarryCare. I think good ole Barry made nice nice with the health insurance and drug companies which will result in many individuals seeing spikes in their rates for some time till the feds figure out how much Obamacare is going to cost. And oh yeah like the health insurance and drug companies ain't going to fib about the numbers. Really, Barry? I expect the shit to hit the fan. Not for the reasons the teabaggers are upset about with the government telling them what to do but the huge increases lots of folks are going to see. Hell having a pre existing condition made me a bit relieved over accessibility to health insurance elsewhere and being able to move out of godforsaken Fairfax County had me a tingle. But with huge increases in rates projected for folks who fall in my category of individual health insurance going on for years to come I'm thinking I'll really be priced out of health insurance in a few years anyways. Thanks, Barry. Yeah, thanks a lot.

Why there was more government coverage about the transition from analog to digital frequencies for TV's than we're getting out of Barry's administration about the alleged Affordable Care Act. I'd think the health of the Nation was way more important than the transition from analog to digital and hell I watch OTA tv cause I found cable too expensive for the shit they show these days. You'd almost think Barry wants to keep the changes on the down low.

Anybody read a New York Times article I think in the Sunday January 15th edition about the coming changes with the advent of ObamaCare? By the time I heard about the article on the following Tuesday the newspaper distributors had removed the old NYT's. They didn't use to do that but nowadays, ugh! and NYT has a paywall to access old articles.
