I use mine for running and for gym workouts. While they don't help shoulder presses, I do find they keep me more balanced for squats and calve raises. In fact, in regular shoes, I never seemed to be able to go real heavy on calve raises because my shoes wouldn't grip the machine very well.
As to running, I no longer get knee pain while running in them.
