Anybody tried these out? A little bizarre, but they look comfortable. I don't know how hygienic they are, since you are essentially wearing the same socks every day.

I see two douchebags at my gym wear those every day. For a beach they may be cool, but not on the shoulder presses at Lifetime Fitness.

They look like they would be good for cross-country.

Strong evidence shows that thickly cushioned running shoes have done nothing to prevent injury in the 30-odd years since Nike founder Bill Bowerman invented them, researchers say. Some smaller, earlier studies suggest that running in shoes may increase the risk of ankle sprains, plantar fasciitis and other injuries. Runners who wear cheap running shoes have fewer injuries than those wearing expensive trainers. Meanwhile, injuries plague 20 to 80 percent of regular runners every year.

+1

I use mine for running and for gym workouts. While they don't help shoulder presses, I do find they keep me more balanced for squats and calve raises. In fact, in regular shoes, I never seemed to be able to go real heavy on calve raises because my shoes wouldn't grip the machine very well.

As to running, I no longer get knee pain while running in them.

That's actually the entire point. You should do a little research into why the company might have geared them that way. ;-)

Depends on the person. Wouldn't try them if I had flat feet, but if you run correctly (don't heel strike), they're supposed to be better for you.

How often do you wash them? They look like they can get pretty funky quick.

Are you running on asphalt or on trails and how many miles are you running?

That split toe or hooved design has been around for ages...it is based on the traditional Japanese tabi sock...

And you didn't know that before you looked up the ToPo and read the article about how the creator of this shoe was inspired by that tabi shoe.

I agree with this. I have used the regular barefoot shoes, not the ones with the toes, and found that I run better and no knee pain. I have also found it helps to change your running style from landing on your heels to landing on the balls of your feet. Regular shoes force you to run on your heels and cause more damage to your heels, so Nike and others put in more padding, when actually less padding is what is needed. I suggest you try them, you will probably like them.
