Sad voter in Virginia...am I the only one?
Posted by: Sad Virginian ()
Date: November 05, 2013 12:51AM

So...I have a somewhat weird voting pattern...Clinton, Gore, Bush (2004), Obama, Romney.

I voted for Warner in 2001, Kaine in 2005, and McDonnell in 2009.

I guess you would call me a swing voter. I'm not really sure I fit an ideology. I just like competent people. I don't like lots of bullshit. I don't like losers and pricks.

I kind of feel like I have no one to vote for today. Cooch is...

And Terry is a douchebag.

I guess I can vote for Sarvis. But Sarvis is a protest vote.

I may just leave it blank.

Why is this the best we can do?

We're Virginia...I just don't understand....

Sounds about like me. Wait for the diehard partisans to come in and express disbelief that anyone could possibly vote as you have. lol

The fact is that neither party represents the center very well any longer. Both now largely are controlled by the fringe within their respective parties. So, yes, that's the best that we can do. Unless and until people get sick of the bullshit on both sides and throw all of them the fuck out.

I like Cuccinelli's STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) plan for K1-12.

Write in someone competent. Depressingly, we all probably know at least 1 person with more commonsense, aptitude and qualifications than either of these two thundercunts. Any random cat about your neighborhood would certainly fit that criteria.

and, of course, I like Cooch' support of our 2nd amendment rights and low taxation.

not too crazy about his emphasis on coal, though. I wish he focused more on nuclear energy.

Did you see the latest appeal by leading scientists from MIT, etc to emphasise nuclear energy production as means to control CO2 rise? I agree with that. Newer designs are needed for better energy production by fission plants. France's fast breeder reactors are an example. I think they get 60% of their electricity from them.

Mac-T's plan for 1 GWatt wind farm off-shore is lame. Ground-based wind-farm's are not a viable energy production strategy.

That would also be a protest vote. I am voting for Cuccinelli. I am a woman and can see through the crap the left have thrown out to distract from McAuliffe's misgivings. I have no doubt that Cuccinelli is best for VA - he is very much against Obamacare - this will become a factor in VA soon. McAuliffe loves Obamacare. Vote Cuccinelli. You will not regret it.

We have to go with McAuliffe, but hate the thought of it.

The wife and I both retired from the State with 65 years between us. We endured a great deal of shit to qualify for our (very) modest pensions.

To the Republicans, we are the enemy. They don't think people should have a pension. Hell, McDonnell stole 600 million from the pension fund a few years back. Cuccinelli, with his talk about cutting taxes without replacing the revenue, certainly has "plans" for our pension money.

So we have to hold our noses and pull the lever for McA. Nothing is more important to us that making it to the finish line with our pensions intact.

The Democrats are far less likely to try to fuck us out of it.

The funny thing is, the GOP on this forum like

^^^^^^^

Are the best assistance to Progressives in this area. If you think people vote (D) because we all want welfare you are delusional. Most democrats I know have advanced degrees, are 2nd generation immigrants. engineers, doctors, medical researchers who find this kind of stupidity expressed above as so repugnant that we feel required to mobilize and help end it via the electorate.

So by all means, keep going around spouting GOP talking points and idiot rhetoric moron

Remember to vote for McA, he has never held public office but man can he raise dirty money, for his friends. So be his friend right? Oh and how long has he been a Virginian? Is he? Boy did we end up with crappy choices. McA may be the worst excuse ever! Disgusted and disappointed. Better luck next time with a competent candidate, either way VA is screwed!

So you are a single-issue voter. You are voting against "Obamacare". You really are a special kind of stupid.

A lot of republicans I know are voting for Sarvis because they are very disappointed with the government shutdown.

The shutdown killed republicans hopes in this election.

Yes, because we all know that demcocraps are NEVER single issue voters. Right.

Well they vote for gay marriage and abortion and ignore the trashing the candidate does to the economy. My son did some door to door for a local Republican candidate and some of the Dems were so nasty even threatening. What happened to civility? Awful!

So much conservative whining, so little time. Imagine if the republican party ran moderate candidates for office as opposed to extremists. What a concept, there would probably be a much different outcome because thinking people don't care for extremists.

Ask Newt Gingrich, Grover Norquist, Dick Cheney and the rest of the scorched-earth Republicans. The right-wing is owed a lot more disrespect than what it has received so far. There is still a huge backlog of it actually. Thanks so much for the Great Recession, by the way. We all appreciated that.

They've kind of painted themselevs into a corner. Ovber 35-40 years, They invested hundreds of millions of corporate dollars into building the right-wing disinfrmation media, but their attempts to use that macine to drag people further to the right are starting to bog down and backfire. The lies and nonsense are -- as you say -- starting to turn reasonabler people off. But if they don't continue to pander to the extremist base they have created, they lose energy. Can't go this way, and can't go the other way either.

It was NOT the Republicans that shut the government down. Republicans gave Obama and Reid a bill with plenty of money to keep things open. Obama simply refused to sign it because it wasn't 100% to his liking, and included some defunding of Obamacare.

So if a Democratically controlled house gave a Republican Senate a military funding bill that included Citizenship paths for all illegals, then that would be the Republican's choice to shut down the military? Gotcha
