7 Election Realities The Pundits Have Missed
Date: November 12, 2012 05:24PM

1) Barack Obama has had to be twice as good a president as his counterparts to survive all the rancor, slander, and knee-jerk obstructionism heaped against him for four years. I think he may go down as a great president

2) The superrich who donated to various Republican candidates and Super Pacs so they could ensure they won’t have to pay higher taxes ended up throwing away their money—millions upon millions—arguably as much or more than any tax bite would take.

3) Much is made of how an hour and a half in the Denver debate turned everything around for the Republican cause. But Romney LOST the last two debates. Is that not significant? If he were so brilliant the first time out why did he then falter?

4) Speaking of Ryan, after Romney had won the nomination why did he feel compelled to once again reassure the hallowed right wing Republican base by selecting the Neanderthal-thinking Wisconsin congressman, so out of touch with mainstream America?

5) Let’s get something straight about the white vote. Many of those commenting on the subject have presented an image of a poor, beleaguered traditional America, read white America, facing a tsunami of rising minorities, indeed, that whites now are a minority. Not true, not even slightly true—far more whites voted for Obama than African-Americans, Latinos and Asian-Americans combined. Obama was hugely popular among whites, particularly among women and young people.

6) The Democratic “get out the vote” abilities have been lauded, but there were numerous non-party organizations, such as MoveOn.org and ActNow, whose members worked their own calling banks and held calling parties in living rooms; individuals even made calls from home with computer data feeds.

7) Which brings us to the once vaunted Tea Party. Two short years ago it was the big story of the 2010 election. Where did it go on November 6?
