Question for a fat person
Posted by: dick simmons ()

I wonder at what stage do fat people simply give up and accept it. I see people that are clearly over four hundred pounds wheezing and puffing in the grocery store with carts full of cupcakes and snacks. They are always riding one of those electric carts too.
Is there a certain weight like 250 where you just admit defeat?

I've wondered that, too. Is there a point where they say "hey, I could workout and loose XXlbs. and be healthy again"? Or do they just say "fuck it, I'm fat and always will be"

I think they reach a point of depression and the can't get the help they need. I do wonder how many calories they are taking in just to stay at 250. it really is sad. I feel sorry for them.

Those fat carts are not doing them any favors either.

"Is there a certain weight like 250 where you just admit defeat?"

It's different for everyone.

Really, once you pass a certain point, it's easy to feel like you're winning just because the scale didn't move up that morning.

I hit 260 (I'm 6'1") before a "circuit breaker" tripped, and I decided that I wouldn't live like that anymore.

I'm 195 today.

"I do wonder how many calories they are taking in just to stay at 250."

Roughly the same number that they'd consume to stay at 200, assuming a sedentary lifestyle. Unlike muscle, fat doesn't burn a significant number of calories on its own, though carrying the extra weight will account for a few.

They didn't get fat on their own.

Somebody else built that.

Im a fat person, who has lot quite a bit of weight, but I am still overweight. I think for most fat people, once you been fat a long time, it truly is harder to lose weight than someone who is a thin person who gains 10 or 15 lbs when they reach their 40s. The body fights to stay the way its been. When you try to reduce calories for awhile, you get so hungry, its hard to stay that way. But its not impossible. Most people also, sorry to say, are very ignorant about nutrition. For example, I see quite a bit of overweight people order a huge meal and wash it down with a "Diet Coke". The diet coke probably has apartame or sucraolose- one of the WORST things you can have if you're trying to get rid of fat.

Most fat peopel do want to lose weight, they simply don't know where to begin, or made the mistake of yo yo diet, ending up gaining it all back and more. I'm not saying its good or healthy to be fat, but fat people really do get ridiculed a lot, and most people don't understand that it is very challenging to lose a lot of weight and keep it off for good.

Honestly, not that much. To maintain a weight of 250 lbs for the average man say 5'10, you would eat about 2800 calories a day. Thats not a huge amount, really. If a person doesn't exercise and eats fast food, then its very very easy to reach 250 lbs without even trying.

Is everyone over 250 (and under 6') depressed?

It has to be the case. And the SSRIs must give people the munchies.

SSRIs definitely increase appetites, but they don't hold a candle to what atypical antipsychotics do to your metabolism!!

We must teach parents how to feed their children. It starts in the home. If you are a fat adult please try and become a normal weight before you have kids.

I see fat families and I know they all suffer.

We can blame video games, fast food and our hectic lives. Please. Get real! It is a choice.

Do you choose to give up and eat crap? Everyday in America fastfood is winning.

When do we start to say no to crap?

There is a reason. Fattening food is cheaper. Much. much cheaper in fact. A can of coke and a bag of potato chips, or a super value meal at McDonald's is much cheaper than say, fresh fruits and veggies, fresh fish and chicken. Not saying that you cant eat healthier, but a very poor person on food stamps most likely will go for the value. Thats why most people who don't have a lot of money are fat. It used to be the opposite. So its not just how much people eat, its also what they are eating.
Calorie dense, low nutrition food.

Agree to a point. You can eat reasonably well on a strict budget, but it does take time and effort. Inexpensive protein sources - chicken legs, canned tuna, eggs, beans, Greek yogurt, soy. Stir frys can stretch more expensive protein. Pasta and rice are cheap - although not great nutritional choices unless whole grain. You can buy frozen vegetables for cheap at a place like BJs. If it's just you, go and have a Whopper. But if you have a family you owe it to them to make nutritionally sound meals.
