They're more likely to exclude you over sexual preference or religion... they seem to prefer to attach their bigotry to "who you are" rather than "what you've done".

It MIGHT be a different matter if you were an adult who wanted to become a Scout Leader, but no, they don't run "background checks" on juveniles.

Also be aware: policies are entirely arbitrary and vary from troop to troop.

I was expelled from the Boy Scouts when I was 12 or 13 for bringing Canadian Mist and Playboys along on an outing (it was a normal thing among the "senior scouts"... but the Scoutmaster's Son went into my backpack, and I was the only one "caught").

Even after that, I could've gone down the road and joined another troop at will.

There is a special Troop for first time offenders headed by a Scoutmaster Sandusky.
