Operation Care Package
Posted by: Chrissy ()
Date: July 14, 2012 04:47AM

My name is Christina Blanchard but most of my friends just call me Chrissy. I am working on trying to gather supplies, food and toiletry packs together so that I can continue to show support to our troops overseas for the holidays coming in December. I will start mailing most of the care packages in early December and they all will arrive in time for the holiday season. I know what it is like being away from family, friends and a "normal" life back at home and I also know what it was like when receiving a package and how great I felt. I am trying to give back to those who are currently serving in the military and "pay it forward" to those who are currently in deployed and remote locations.

How do we know this money will be going to actual care packages? Anyone can start an online fundraiser and use the money for a down-payment on a car....

That site you use for fundraising has no credibility whatsoever. One of the categories to fund raise in is "Gaming."

LOL at this fundraiser.

I want to make games. And as soon as I read about OUYA, the $99 game console, I decided “hey, that’s definitely the platform I want to develop games for.”

My goal is to raise enough money to pay for the $1337 reward on the OUYA Kickstarter campaign. I'm already a backer, I just need your help putting together the funds. And in return you'll get some silly/fun/useful perks.

Ridiculous, right?

This is a noble endeavor, but the cynic in me thinks this is suspect. Most care package campaigns I've seen "adopt" a specific unit or group to support, and provide an option to ship care packages to them directly. Just saying "give me $10,000 so I can send stuff to the troops overseas" doesn't inspire a lot of confidence.

He's trying to raise enough money through donations so he can make a donation on Kickstarter?

Impressive.

Christina, I will call you Christina instead of Chrissy because I am not one of your friends. If you are legit then provide the IRS 501 c 3 account.

Why are you all so cynical? Didn't those online petitions raise $750K for that bus monitor a few weeks back? People seem to have too much money anyway.

Think of the soldiers!

because when I file my taxes I doubt the IRS will accept "Chrissy" as a legitimate deduction.

How about Operation Care Package, an Illinois-registered 501(c)(3) corporation?

http://www.operationcarepackages.org/

Of course, this is no guarantee that Ms. Blanchard is affiliated in any way with Operation Care Package, but if you're feeling generous*, you can always get in touch with the organization itself.
*I cracked up thinking about the word "generous" in connection with Fairfax Underground. The only things FFXUntermenschen are generous with are their hate, racism, misogyny, ignorance, and sheer fucking stupidity.

The soldiers will be fine without the help of scam artists.

This "noble effort" has been legitimately going for for longer than the OP has been alive.

That's because the only thing you know us as are "the people who didn't think your blog was hilarious." Maybe if you'd made an effort to get to know people on here instead of just treating everyone like a demographic and your own personal audience, things would be a little different.

I'm guessing it's just easier to stay bitter and angry.
