Getting the Stink Off My Sandals

So, back in the 90's I bought a pair of Tevas. I wore them for one summer and had to throw them out because they smelled so fucking bad.

Fast forward to 2011...I bought a pair of Keens because they said they had all of this microbial-stink-fighting technology. Well, either they don't or my feet killed it...they stink.

Does anyone have any tips for freshening up my Keens?

Soak 'em in a bucket with just a touch of bleach overnight.


Air dry.

Once a weeks I spray the bottoms of my Tevas with Tilex and let them soak for a couple of minutes then rinse with hot water and air dry. It works great. Use the Tilex that chokes the shit out of you upon shower tub applications, not the sissy soap scum remover.

I tried this a couple of years ago while rinsing my sandals off in the shower. I looked up and saw the Tilex and said what the hell. Been using it ever since.

On your keens try not to get any on the outer portion as it may bleach out the color. With nylon webbing its not an issue. I spray the entire sandal and let it soak for a few minutes before rinsing.

Do you have a washing machine without an agitator? I just throw my Tevas and Salomons in the washer and put it on delicate cycle. Cleans them right up and gets rid of the funk.

Soaking your feet in a bucket with a tad of bleach or hydrogen peroxide will kill a lot of stuff that ails your toes or makes your feet reek.

I used to only wear tevas and other sandals and was 'that guy' with wool socks and sandals in the winter.

Do they help you bust out foot stalls on the quad?

Real men have painful, 3-inch thick calluses on their big toes from boots that I really wish I didn't have.

I had Five Fingers, but had to return all mine because the fabric kept ripping on the toes. Now I stick to Techamphibians and Minimus.
