What does it mean:

Is Obama socialist agenda finally taking hold?
The economy is ruined?
Or Obama just lucky?

What say you!?

I'm really confused.

Wall Street is bad but Wall Street doing better is good?

I say unemployment is still high and while you may take a profit on the stocks the commodities will eat your ass up. Look at the prices for groceries and gas before proclaiming an Obama victory.

Even more confusing,,,

This mornings headline "April Dows worst month since crisis began"

Then a few hours later,,,,"Dow closes at highest level since crisis began"

I hate the media,,, trying to fabricate a story out of the stock market reports EVERY SINGLE DAY,,,

Our spring slow down was caused by Iran rattling their saber and driving up gas prices. As the gas price hike slowed our economic effect trailed the gas prices by about a month.

That is why forign policy is the most important factor in the coming election.

If McCain/Palin won we'd have commited 50,000 troops to the Arab Spring and we'd be staring at $5+ for a gallon of gas.

Very true....Also Europe's on-going debt crisis seems to be there to hold the US back as soon as it gets any form of momentum. I think Americans are trying to be optimistic, its just the outside influences that "spook" them.

Is unemployment high? Yes and no. There are pockets where unemployment is better or worse. Local conditions really. Historically unemployment numbers have been worse.

Its really not complicated to understand that some super companies who are doing very well are whats propping up the overall number.

Stock market and interest rates are the primary means for the Fed to channel funds to the economy. Higher stock prices, more IPOs, and low cost of borrowing mean more profits and bigger bonuses for Wall Streeters and tech company employees.

Think of it as a form of welfare as it's mainly being fueled by the Fed's asset purchases and government spending and tax cuts.

Lot of truth in that. A big part of the rise in value is simply a rise in cost due to the dollar being worth less in real terms versus hard assets.

92% employment is bad... okay. I bet if you had 92% of your teeth back you'd say that was good.

The Fed has to continue to pump money into the economy because companies keep sitting on ridiculous piles of cash instead of making capital investments.

Maybe we need a tax on saving?

The cash is coming from government stimulus, tax cuts, and ultracheap borrowing. The large firms are parking their profits in offshore subsidiaries to avoid taxes while borrowing for almost nothing to fund their domestic operations. Change tax laws and raise interest rates.

There's a little over 12.5 million unemployed people out there that would disagree with you.

I 5% are basically unemployable as in mentally or physically can not hold a job of any sort. and I say a good 1-2% more are people with obsolete skills. I think we are stuck with +7% unemployment for sometime, until the baby-boomers finally fade away.

Not going to happen. There's a bulge not far behind them and the obsolete cube dwellers of today will just replace them. Those typical office-type jobs are becoming the fastest to be displaced now via automation and aren't likely to ever return.
