How can suicide be Murder?

In reference to the Rutgers student who offed himself; How can you prosecute for murder when the cause of death is listed as Suicide? Wouldnt the coroner or ME have to list the COD as 'homocide' before there can be an investigation or charges filed? Isnt this a slam dunk for the defense?
Defense Lawyer calls ME to the stand...
"And sir, What did you determine to be the cause of death?
ME
"Suicide"
Defense Lawyer
"I rest my case"
I guess it just seems odd that something that is labeled a suicide has a homicide charge looming over it. Its like being a gay Catholic, or a pro-choice Catholic. It doesnt exist. Cant happen. If suicide means caused ones own death and homicide means to cause anothers death; they cant be one and the same.

ho·mi·cide noun
Definition of HOMICIDE
1 : a person who kills another
2 : a killing of one human being by another
So exactly how the hell is a suicide equate to murder. And Im not even saying weather the kid shoulda been charged or not. Simply that give the facts currently in evidence there should be no legal way to bring charges.
Im not even saying the police shouldn't investigate and try to find cause to change the COD to murder but the DA is out of their pay-grade in bringing these charges.

If the person suicide was assisted by someone else, like a Kevokian or anybody who helped in the act. If I pushed a guy off a bucket with a rope he tied around his neck and he ascended the bucket without any help.. My pushing or kicking out the barrel makes it a homicide.

Dharun Ravi is not charged with murder: he's being charged with invasion of privacy, hindering apprehension, tampering with a witness and evidence and two counts of bias intimidation, the last two of which are the most serious and are why Ravi is looking at doing a double sawbuck in the joint.
See New Jersey Statutes Annotated 2C:16-1, Bias Intimidation for the actual statute, but basically it says that if you commit any one of a whole slew of crimes and you do them with the intent to intimidate another person because of their race, color, religion, gender, handicap, sexual orientation, or ethnicity, you get an enhanced sentence for the underlying crime.
It's like a special sauce for the steaming shit sandwich New Jersey makes you eat if you commit a crime and do it to harass or intimidate someone.
