Scam the Scammer

Someone called today from the number 661 380 3000

Said I won a sweepstakes of some sorts by shopping at walmart, target etc.

Never once mentioned my name. Only asked if this was the owner of XXX-XXX-XXXX. I already knew it was a scam from the start. The guy had an Indian accent and didn't call from a Virginia area code. I asked him for more info and pretended to be interested.

He wanted to set up an appointment for me to go to the Embassy suites in washington DC for a sweepstakes drawing.

Upon further investigation I found this website

http://www.yourconfirmationletter.com/washdc.html

Couldn't find any info about it on whois.

I told him I'd call him back. I'm not gona call him back, but if you want to pretend like your falling for his scam it should make for some good entertainment. Be sure to record the call and post it on youtube.

This guy's a scumbag.

He said to call 909 786 1992 at 2PM to setup an appointment to meet him at the embassy suite. If anyone wants to get face to face with a scammer now is the chance. The guy is so ignorant he might actually believe that he is scamming you.

Someone should go kick his ass, take his wallet and post all of his personal information to other scammers. Varmin.

Oh, we got a call, too - very American accent female. Probably same scam - said we entered a contest for an SUV or something somewhere and "Hit it" and should call back - but I believe was a number beginning with 88 (probably 888).

I let it go to recorder and simply listened in - didn't call back.

I have been inundated with calls from people claiming I won something from "the contest you entered". I didn't enter any contest. The only thing I can figure is that I was enticed to fill out some form online, and the "trusted" website sold my info to these sleezebags.

It got so bad that I put a screening device on my phone that requires them to go through all kinds of hoops to get to me.

I don't understand how this stuff is legal.

Nah, you didn't enter any contest - that's their scam.

And, no, it's not legal if you are on the do-not-call list.

It might be a police "net" and the calls are going out to known criminals with outstanding warrants.

FFXU posters are probably well represented on the call list.

Now THAT would be interesting!

But not outstanding warrants - maybe new ones?

Nah - easier just to come to my house less than half a mile from the Sully susbstation.

Ah...here's the scammer as relayed by other recipients of the bogus "win":

>>> "...Same message here from Katie, National Verification Center, hybrid
>>> truck contest, etc. She did not say that I actually won the truck but
>>> instead says that "your name was pulled last night" - we're clearly meant
>>> to infer we won from this misleading ploy..."
