That game means nothing. You cannot be the national champion if you didnt win your conference, much less not even winning your division within your conference. The game is a joke regardless of outcome

LSU getting blanked. Embarrassing. Knowing how they love football in the SEC, wonder if Les Miles will be on the hot seat after this?

It happens in the NFL all of the time, and the NFL has playoffs.

Sorry, I meant Division.

Maybe they should institute a rule where two teams from the same Conference can't play for the title. I think it sucks two SEC teams ended up squaring off. Fuck Oklahoma State for whiffing on Iowa State.

They werent even the champion of their division within the conference making it worse.

Less Oregon lost to LSU but they lost week 1, Alabama lost week 10 at home. OSU would have been more fun to watch too. The voters screwed this one up badly.

OSU lost to Iowa State. They didn't deserve to play, either.

Thats why they need to arrange the games based on conf champ v.conf champ,,,

God forbid there is even a +1 playoff,,

There may be one soon though, the other conferences are probably tired of watching the SEC take the Championship every year,,,

OSU and Oregon deserved a shot before Bama did. Early season losses should mean less than losing at the end.

The NFL comparison is also a horrible one. The NFL has the playoffs. You make the playoffs or you dont. You have to win it from there. Not just two hand picked teams for 1 game.

If the BCS went with a 6 or 8 team playoff then who ever was standing at the end deserved to be there.

Oklahoma State lost to an unranked Iowa State team two weeks after Alabama lost to the #1 ranked team in the country. Oregon lost two games, including to USC two weeks after Alabama lost to LSU. Your argument makes no sense.

The problem was that Alabama and LSU were clearly the two best teams,,,

You have to make the Conf. Championship games mean more,,,

If your the conf. champ, you get to advance,,,period

And we could end up with Clemson playing for the championship while Alabama stayed home? The problem wasn't that Alabama got a shot at the national championship, but that Oklahoma State and Stanford didn't. Of course if there was a playoff Boise State would probably be complaining because they didn't get in.

Clemson would only get there if they had to go through some other champs in a playoff format. ACC football is average at best now. Boise should play a harder schedule than 1 top 25 team all year if they want to be in the big games

Point is that there are at least three SEC teams a couple from the Pac 10 and a couple more from the Big whatever that could easily have handled Clemson. Then you also have the strong programs from unaffiliated conferences such as Boise St. and Houson. Why should a weaker program from a weak football conference HAVE A SHOT just because it won, when much better programs are kept out just because they were runners up in their's, or weren't in one of the favored conferences? Also you can end up with fluke situations like what if South Carolina had beaten LSU in the SEC championship game, in which case arguably the top three SEC teams would not have qualified.

Playoff rules are about WHO GETS A SHOT at winning the championship. If you are only going to have 4 teams playing the rules should be designed so that the four best teams get in. Using an arbitrary criteria such as conference champion could close out too many excellent programs each year, and it could open the door to relatively weak programs getting in.

Keep the year-long ranking systems intact, have a playoff system that includes the top 8 teams. Done.

And you can make the "Big name" bowl games rotate which games in the playoff tree they hold.

But that's too easy and makes too much sense, so the NCAA will never go for it.

8 teams makes sense. This +1 thing is kind of weak.

No argument - Alabama deserves the national championship. That doesn't negate the argument that there should be a college football playoff. If they can do it in the smaller sized schools (divisions II, III, etc), they can do it for the big boys. It's all about the money, or more accurately, the money certain key opponents are scared they would lose if there were a playoff system in place.

The SEC is the best conference in the nation, period! LSU still had a great season but lost when it really mattered. Too bad! Les Miles and LSU were out coached and outplayed in every aspect of the game! Now that you have had 2 SEC teams play for the national championship of course everybody wants a playoff system! Let's be honest, I'm just surprised it took this long for that to happen. But what is everyone going to say when they implement a playoff and 2 SEC teams head off for a national championship yet again? What are the complaints going to be then? What will all the critics complain say? That was a great game between the two best teams in the country and the best team one! You say it was boring, only one touchdown? Number 1 and 2 defenses squared off, what did you expect? If this applies to how your feeling than your team needs a defense and you might come to the realization that you do not have to score 60 points a game if you can stop the other team from scoring! I've read a lot of post about, this game doesn't count, and blah blah blah! Then answer me this, "why were Nick Saban and the Alabama Crimson Tide holding up the crystal ball at the end of the game being declared national champions?" Everybody always hate on the best and the best is Nick Saban and the SEC!

Not only am I a bama fan but I am a realist and if stan, ok state, or oregon would have gone undefeated then let them play for the ship, but their destiny was in there own hands and they choked! What is the argument? Impliment a playoff, the best chance for other conferences is for the SEC to knock one another out. But look at it this way, the SEC FINALLY LOST in the championship!

Your assumptions are way off base. MANY people have been calling for a playoff system for quite a while now, and it has nothing to do with having 2 teams from the same conference play in the BCS championship. There have been many years when there was not a clear-cut #1 and #2, for example when the #2 and #3 teams having the same record. A playoff system would solve this all-too-common problem. This year was actually more clear cut than many. It was widely agreed upon that LSU and Alabama were #1 and #2.

People have talked about a playoff system for years, but I think this is the first time I've heard of the BCS seriously discussing it. Apparently attendance and ratings for the BCS games were not very good this year. It's because the games are all meaningless. Make them part of a playoff and then you'll have a reason for people to watch.

Are you saying that the Carquest FedEx Orville Redenbacher Enterprise Rent-A-Car Bowl between two 5-6 teams is meaningless?

Yes there has been talk about the plus 1 and playoff system, but this is exactly the situation the bcs was dreading and did not want to happen! Never has there been such serious discussion about it, since the this year! Let's say LSU won that game the same way bama did, come you imagine the uproar? Even though the best 2 teams did play

The killer was that you had two great teams go up against each other and nobody cared because the were from the same conference and had played each other before and were playing in their own backyards.

Where is it written that u have to win your conference, everyone knows but hate to admit bama is the best
In the country, had Oklahoma St, who lost to 6-6 Iowa St, played against bama or lsu, they would have
Gotten stomped by the number 1 and 2 defenses. And Oklahoma St, defense sucks. They better be happy
With what they got in their bowl win.

If the best two teams in a conferece play in their conference championship game then that issue is resolved,,,

HOW CAN YOU BE NATIONAL CHAMPS IF YOU AREN'T THE CHAMPION OF YOUR OWN CONFERENCE!

Why play conference championship games, or have confereces at all uif there is no meaning?

Playoff system solves both our issues though,,,

Not in this case. ALA and LSU are both in the SEC-West, so they would never play in the SEC championship game.

Real easy. THe only team #2 ALA lost to was #1 LSU. They're better than any other team in the country. So, they meet again in the BCS nat'l championship, get revenge and are now natinonal champs.

For the other BCS games you are right. Michigan and Virginia Tech were selected for BCS bowls which was very controversal. But most reasonable CFB fans agreed that AL and LSU were the two best teams. If you want to change the rules hit the BCS up, they don't have a rule that states you have to win your conference to play in the title game.
