Actually, I think it'd be more like Western Europe in the dark ages, with every third fucking asshole declaring himself "king" of whatever little shitpile he and his buddies could hold on to and converting the local populace to serfs.

If you have gold or food, you'd better have plenty of ammunition, because someone else is going to want to take it from you, and they'll happily kill you for it.

Oh, and let's not forget widespread rape and rampant disease.

If society breaks down and falls into chaos, the recent campaign buzzword, DROP Stan Barry will take on a whole new meaning if my dreams of becoming the self proclaimed sheriff are to come true.

I can't wait for the day I'll be able to put on his uniform and badge.

I don't think it's gonna collapse due to a nutbag exploding financial institutions; conversely, there is a very legitimate chance that they are going to implode.
